Paid sick leave is a good idea though...every job I've had has always had sick leave so I guess I really never thought about it before...

Well, cause you can't always depend on states to do the right thing...sometimes you just gotta step in.

Washington has such a great reputation of "doing the right thing."

S.C. does quite a lot to help poor people. I live in Georgia in a border town to S.C. We can not attract any industry to this area because S.C. is giving away the bank to create jobs. Those jobs are not for rich people.

In the long run is that really helping anyone though? In many ways, SC is no better than Mexico ...companies come here because of cheap labor and because they can get huge tax incentives. At some point, we have to start collecting more tax revenue to fund ALL of the state's needs...and there are many.

And now the governor wants to lower the state income tax rate from 7 to 5% as a trade off for raising the state gas tax? I understand the whole lower taxes thing, but it seems that if we were to actually raise the local and state rates, we could decrease our dependence on the feds and maybe actually take care of our own for a change...

Is it really helping anyone to get them a job?

It doesn't seem like a great idea to me

Jan 21, 2015, 4:02 AM [ in reply to Re: i will work with the states to pass laws to guarantee paid.. ]

How can I pay my employees if they don't produce income for me? The answer is that I and my other employees have to work more to pay for someone else.

Finding ways to outsource and reduce staff is becoming more and more important.

Well...I guess I could you if you REALLY have a viable business model if you can't afford to do right by those who work for you. I suppose at some point in the past, slave owners were faced with the same types of decisions...I mean how could they actually afford to pay people and keep all their fancy things?

Understand that I am being facetious to a degree and I don't have anything against you personally, but I do believe there are basic benefits every employee should be guaranteed...a reasonable wage, paid vacation, and paid sick leave.
