I was WRONG!

May 9, 2022, 11:30 AM

I went in for the "Nukulur" Treadmill Stress Test this morning. Before I got on the treadmill, I predicted to the attending nurses that it probably would only take about a minute and a half for my heart rate to get up to their desired rate of 145 bpm.

I was WRONG! It got there in under a minute. I have a sneaking suspicion that's not a good thing?

:(

Maybe you’re doing the treadmill wrong?

I had one done several years ago and was told not to take any of my usual medication. After about 1 minute on the treadmill, I could hardly breath. They asked me what was wrong and I said I hadn't taken my asthma medication. They were alarmed and asked me why I did that and I said because you told me not to take my usual medication. They looked at each other and shrugged. I did what they told me to do so my test was probably invalid but they never said anything.

exercise session look like they would have to LAY OFF the exercise for about 10 years to get to looking like the rest of us?

The only notable exception I can think of to that rule was Richard Simmons. He looked like he was on a steady diet of Hostess Twinkies.

...or something.

under a minute

May 9, 2022, 4:09 PM

It was mandatory to take a cardio stress test plus 4 other things (stretch test, weight lift, sits up in a minute, and body fat).
Every year I got a perfect 5, but could care less. It was kinda fun competing with your fellow workers.

At 50 I failed the cardio test when a new doctor took over. Friends were shocked.

That week end at Camp Legune I broke the state record for my age group in the half marathon, so my cardio was apparently OK.

I know what happened. The old doc was a friend and fellow jogger who would have fun stressing some of us until we broke. He ran the Marine Corps Marathon with me one year.
The new guy did not understand the "fight or flight" thing. Before an event my/your heart rate goes up in preparation. It settles, and even as more stress is applied, it drops. To get a real result, increasing stress is needed for at least 10 minutes.
