I was talking with my son about 9/11

Sep 11, 2020, 12:10 PM

He said there were only 3K deaths that day and 192K deaths from Covid-19. I said the difference is we went after the people that made 9-11 happen but we will not go after China for releasing this on us and the world. Times have changed.

I KNOW RIGHT?

Sep 11, 2020, 12:21 PM

We are living in a pansy world. Why won't our leadership go bomb china like we did Iraq? Who makes those decisions? Why won't they? If you were in charge, what would you be doing about it?

Re: I KNOW RIGHT?

Sep 11, 2020, 12:31 PM

I know bombing China would start WWIII. The bible says that is who we fight in the end. It will happen sooner or later but when no one knows. I would not want to be the one that starts it myself. They have stolen all of our technology.

The Bible says we fight China to the death?

Your suggestion is...what?

Sep 11, 2020, 12:23 PM

Go to war with China? Hey, how about some tariffs! That'll show'em.

No, but seriously, explain the statement you made to your son, and show us that you're providing him with proper parental guidance.

As a refresher, we went to Iraq, which had precisely nothing to do with 9/11, based on anti-Muslim/Middle East sentiment and opportunism, and upwards of 185,000 Iraqis are dead as a result. And the people ACTUALLY responsible, the Saudis...remind me again what we did there? Teaching your offspring revisionist history will lead to this happening again. Rinse, repeat, I reckon.

He a grown man, the guidance I gave him was China is not our friend and we should bring all manufacturing back before something else happens. He was a child during 9-11 and he knows all about it because I remember it every year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

bring ALL manufacturing back?

Sep 11, 2020, 12:32 PM

Bud you should probably take the time to learn more about the consequences of that. That's dumb. Real dumb.

Unless you want a literal AND figurative wall put around the US and turn our economy into a domestic-only situation. Maybe that would work lol.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: bring ALL manufacturing back?

Sep 11, 2020, 12:38 PM

No its not that is something that has been told for 50 years. We gave them everything. I worked for a company 30 yrs ago that sent them high tech machinery @ that time. What did they do copy it and started making those machines. The company I worked for no longer is in business. We did it to ourselves and this generation will pay for it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Today's manufacturing ain't the same industry as 30 years

Sep 11, 2020, 12:43 PM

ago. I mean, doesn't EVERYONE to some degree "steal" ideas and concepts?

Supply chain diversification, geography, workforce economics, and speed of production are far more important in a global economy than worrying about the Chinese "stealing" technology.

In many cases we GIVE them technology because it, believe it or not, helps the US manufacturing sector.

You are so full of it or brain washed either way. Every small town and big city in the USA had all there factories close. When I was growing up everyone had a job. Now no one has a job they are rioting in the streets. Ya, we all made money off those Asian funds but what about everyone else?

Eh, neither. May just have some experience in the industry.

Sep 11, 2020, 1:22 PM [ in reply to Re: Today's manufacturing ain't the same industry as 30 years ]

Since you've been out of the game for awhile apparently and stuck in a time warp, I'll offer a few things here to get you up to where we are today:

*Not all factories have closed in every small town and big city in the USA.
*When you were growing up, not everyone had a job. That's factually incorrect.
*Today there ARE people with jobs
*There are far fewer people rioting in the streets than all that would be a part of the statement "no one has jobs they are rioting in the streets"

Since 2014 US manufacturing output has been over $2B each year. That was never done prior to 2014.

Net you are the one that is full of it or brain washed or, more likely, just old and out of touch.
Also, I'm rubber you're glue. What you say bounces off me and sticks to you.

Re: Eh, neither. May just have some experience in the industry.

And you're still wrong that we "went after" the people responsible for 9/11. We went after Al Queda, sure, but as Joe mentions below, at what cost? And then nothing done to the Saudis and a false pretense to attack Iraq.

Trump has shown zero interest in military action against anyone other than responding to Iran's attacks and he was well reserved in his reaction to Iran.

I think decoupling from China on medical supplies, medications and other of America's critical needs is all anyone wants or expects.
