Its 9/11 again, can we stop for a moment and remember?

Where you were when this horrible event happened on 9-11-2001 and what has happened since this day. With all the toxic political environment we are living thought @ the moment, remember the people that died that day and who the real enemy is to our great nation. 19 yrs ago our country was changed forever.

Shaving at an airport hotel in Pittsburgh. Had flown out of La Guardia on the 10th, and wife and I were on the observation deck of the South Tower on the 9th.
Prayers for all that lost loved ones that day.

It was about 8:30ish in the morning I had just gotten up and turn on the TV, Used the bathroom, Went down stairs and fixed a cold beverage.. Came back upstairs and there was a massive hole on one of the towers.. They did said a plane had went into one of the towers.. I thought maybe the pilot went asleep or had a health emergency at the controls... 15 minutes later another plane hit the other tower.. I thinking now.. "This isn't right"...
Then the Pentagon got hit...
THIS IS DELIBERATE!!! ACT OF WAR!!!!!
Then the 4th plane crashed ( it would be determined later that the plane was headed for either the White House or the U.S Capital) in PA..
Then the towers fell...??????
Never felt that much sorrow and anger at the same time...

Was a place of “refuge” during the early days of 9/11 when were were still in shock and trying to figure out what was happening. I don’t think there are many of us here any longer that were regulars on T-net back then.
I don’t think I have watched the news so continuously for so many days as I did then. Early on the concern was “would we be next” (or “who who be next for rural America”). You could almost feel/see the country going through the stages of grief collectively (denial - anger - bargaining - depression - acceptance) overlayed against a sense of patriotism that, for whatever reason, seem somewhat unique to the U.S.

Nothing was said during class - I don't think anyone knew it had happened. News traveled much more slowly then.
It wasn't until I had left class and was walking across campus that I knew something happened. I ran into a friend who said that there was an explosion in one of the World Trade Center towers. It was thought to be a bomb at that point.
I walked to Cooper Library and joined many of my fellow students in the lobby to watch the coverage on TV. We were all in stunned silence.

I walked out of an exam and the TV was turned on in the sitting area, the first plane had just hit the tower. My house was right across from campus, so after standing numb and frozen in front of the TV for several minutes, I hauled butt back to the house. All my roommates were sitting in the den glued to the TV. As the horrible morning unfolded more and more friends came over and by lunch there was close to 20 of us. We were horrified and sat in silence for long periods of time as we watched the tragedy continue. Our lives changed forever that day. (I teach my children about that day, so they learn about the feeling of being attacked and watching innocent Americans die at the hands of terrorists) We pray for all those lost, injured and the families of those who lost loved ones. Politics be ####€d, America was under attack, that was the time I realized we are all Americans who love our country, regardless of politics, religion, color, creed etc... God Bless America!!! Never Forgotten!!!

a co-worker walked up and casually said "A plane flew into the WTC". She was so calm and matter of fact about it that I assumed it was just an accident with a small plane and started talking to my cube neighbor about the bomber that crashed into the empire state building during WW2.
About that time a strange hush fell across the office and I noticed heads popping up from cubes all across the floor. People had this strange look on their faces, like they had just been told they had a a terminal disease. I realized it must have been a major airplane crash but still did not fully suspect terrorism, though it had creeped into my head. I certainly did not think there would be additional attacks.
While there was internet video at that time, most websites did not have it, but I fired up the Internet and jumped on Yahoo just in time to see a Kyron go across the top of the page that a second jet had crashed into the WTC. A few minutes later, a supervisor form another dept. came and told mew to leave, that we were shutting down for the day.
I started driving home, going to my son's daycare to check in on him. I drove by and saw that he was fine, so I left him there so that I could watch the news the rest of the day. What I remember that was odd, is that the air seemed quieter than normal, and I think it was because there were no jets overhead and that a lot of the machinery that creates white noise had been turned off.

I definitely remember the eerie silence on 9/11 and the days that followed. I also remember how very aware we were of engine noise when GSP eventually reopened. I could not get into CNN or network news websites that morning and eventually settled on the Chicago Tribune site. I thought a lot about my grandparents hearing about Pearl Harbor solely through the radio and the newspaper.
The next day a radio station played "God Bess the USA" just as I arrived at a doctor appt, and I sat in the parking building with tears running down my face. I still feel a need to listen to Lee Greenwood every Sept 11.

Was on the 18th floor of a high rise in downtown Charlotte. Met someone in the hallway of our office saying one of the towers in NYC was on fire. Went to the break room and saw the first tower in flames. Then later saw the 2nd plane hit. The father of one of our staff was retired from the NYFD. Had began working as a fire security officer at the towers sometime earlier. The staff member received a call from his mother who told him about her husband calling to say he was ok and would be going to the basement of one tower to a staging area. Have heard his body was one of the last pulled from the rubble. Needless to say the mood became even more somber after learning about that situation.
A bit later everyone was told to evacuate the downtown area. Traffic getting to the interstates was really tight as most office workers in the city left about the same time.

Found out in much the same way...coworker came by my cube and said a plane had flown into one of the towers. A bunch of us went into the conference room to watch and were all watching when the second plane hit and continued watching until the towers fell...shock, disbelief, confusion, anger, fear, sorrow....all at once. Like you...left when they evacuated uptown and went home and watched with the rest of the world for the days and weeks after.
I may post more about it later, but was in a room full of engineers (civil, mechanical, fire)...and it became evident to most in the room that the top of the towers would fall/collapse at some point...still didn’t lessen the shock of it actually happening. Several folks in the room lost friends, acquaintances, colleagues in an instant...I did not know anyone personally...but my hands are still shaking typing this. No one event has changed the direction of my life more.

I was in 9th grade biology class. I remember our young teacher at the time having a look of pure and undeniable terror on her face. She tried to hold it together in front of the class, but it was obvious she wasn’t going to be able. A group of students ended up going to front of the class and hugging her as she broke down. We were all terrified and too confused to really grasp what was happening at the time, but Ill never forget the uneasy feeling it gave me to see the adult in the room losing it in front of us.

I had just gotten out of the Navy (Stationed on the Enterprise, The first warship to respond). I had just started a job at a Nuclear Power plant and was in Fire Brigade training. We were setting up for training when the Instructor (a Fire Captain that had retired) started yelling for someone to get the TV out of the truck that a plane had struck the World trade Center. We got the TV setup and he was using this as training for mass casualties and how they would be responding. We watched as the 2nd plane hit and we all realized at that point we were under attack. I will always remember his reaction when they announced on the news that the Incident Command post was being set up inside the buildings. His scream of NO that building is going to come down still echoes in my head, The look he had about being right but hoping with everything that he had that he was wrong as the building started coming down is also something that I can never unsee.

I was at my desk at Clemson when someone in the office next door came in and said a plane had hit the World Trade Center. That's a day I'll never forget. The loss of so many lives was devastating, but we all stood together as one. Countries throughout the world joined us in grieving the loss and gave us much needed support.
Democracy was challenged and survived.

I remember seeing the first plane hit and trying to call my parents who lived in Battery Park NYC. A uneasy time in the USA.

Yes - I agree! .. “We need to Come together and focus on who the real enemy is”.
Unfortunately 19 years later so many still havent figured out who that real enemy is.
Consequently here we are ...muzzled, unemployed, tested, traced and caged within our own borders living through the greatest attack ever orchestrated against humanity across the world.

For me 10th grade Chemistry. Friend of mine’s mom worked in the Pentagon. Forgot her notes for a meeting and was running late, no one survived that meeting. Crazy and sad day.
Given the current political environment we too soon forget the police officers who raced into those burning building without thought to save lives. Those are the same people today wanting to be defunded. Today is a good day to remember the vast majority of good people who serve.
