Got caught in the wrong neighborhood in Baltimore and barely escaped with my life. Why? Because I was a white dude in a black neighborhood after dark. (Cops said, "you should have known better) Not too many places a black man can go and have to fear for his life because of the color of his skin, but every major city has a part that you better not get caught in as a white guy. Even with this experience, I still do not hold grudges against every black person I see because I know they were not the ones that victimized me. Months later, while working at a hospital in a predominately black area (Bons Secour in Baltimore if you want to look it up), I was robbed at knife point while at an ATM by a black man. I still went to work, and took care of sick people that day, all black pretty much, and did not let the experience on my way to work cloud my feelings toward those that I was caring for.

Wanna talk about racism, let's talk, but let it be cerebral and not full of emotion and political correctness. Let's talk numbers, lets talk about white on black crime vs black on white and see where the racism really is.

White person murdered by blacks 14%
Blacks murdered by whites 8%

However, what is really lost in the media's yearning for a story is the amount of black on black crime. 2,491 blacks got killed compared to 3,005 whites while making up less than 13% of the population, 90% of which are carried out by other blacks

I get that blacks are not raised in the same culture as whites, but let's change that instead of placing oppression at the feet of white folks. I have never used the N-word, I have never disrespected a man ever based on what he looked like, but in the eyes of many black people, I am a racist. Taking care of a woman having a huge MI one night, I had to intubate (place a breathing tube down) because this lady had massive pulmonary edema and could not breath, her son got in my face and threatened me that I better not let his momma die. I guess because I was white, he did not feel I would take as good of care of her which is the farthest thing from the truth. Not sure what ultimately happened to her, but she was well taken care of while I was with her, but not because I was threatened to. When these types of numbers or stories are raised in conversation, it is always the same story (the one Nuke invoked) "you do not understand because you are white". That is a copout.

It is a great conversation to have. I am all for empowering every person in America, because quite frankly, we are all better off if we wipe out the bigotry and racism that exists. I just do not think blaming people that look like me for all the bad that exists is the way to go about it.

You don't reckon maybe, um, possibly, just a small chance could have been because you appeared to be lost and defenseless and might have some cash while in a poor, crowded area?
If you went swimming at Seal Beach with bloody steaks tied to your butt, would you assume the sharks attacked you because you're not gray? You didn't deserve to be assaulted, but the world ain't a Disney park; there are desperate people everywhere, they come in all colors, and will do desperate things. Ever seen Deliverance?

And perhaps ask James Anderson, the dude who was dragged behind a truck by a gang of white youth for being black, or the guy with the white girlfriend who broke down in Jasper, TX. Ask him extra loud though- the cops cut off his ear and destroyed one of his eyes. Better to ask Charlie Strong's wife why they left SC, because she can hear better than the aforementioned, and Charlie wasn't found hanging from a tree like that Otis guy in Mississippi a few years back. Heck, read The Secret Life of Bees- takes place right here in SC.

Racial violence goes both ways . . .and a particular race has indeed gotten the business end of that ugly stick, oftentimes under the auspices of local authorities.
Being blind to that reality is to perpetuate it, whether or not not you ever "use the N word"
