i want to know why, when he had the runner picked-off

and threw the ball to the second baseman, why koehner wasn't backing up first base. we had the ss covering second, the 2nd baseman 3/4 of the way to 2nd from 1st, the 1st baseman converging toward the runner and b.k. STANDING off the right side of the mound. if the 2nd baseman hadn't made a diving tag of the runner going back toward 1st, the runner may have very well made it back to 1st base.
