I understand why the SEC wants good, new TV markets, but

Nov 30, 2012, 1:10 PM

wouldn't adding FSU and Clemson basically kill any real leverage the ACC would have in negotiating with the TV execs? It seems like the SEC would love to permanently put the ACC "in its place" if you will, and adding these 2 schools would basically do just that. How would the ACC counter such a move? The answer? There's no way it could. If this were to happen, no teams would be available that would help its brand, especially in football. It would be a bona fide basketball only league, with no pretense of being anything else.

The SEC assumes that it already has the Clemson viewers

and FSU viewers.

Nov 30, 2012, 1:17 PM

The quicker another conference can kill the ACC, the more money is on the table for the rest. A good strategy isn't always about improving ones own hand, but crippling that of your opponent.

My point exactly.

nm

I agree with you.

But I think it is going to have to be the Big 12 to pull the trigger on Clemson and FSU. With no market here they could gain it with those two.

While you are correct, VT and a NC school make more sense.

DEFENSIVE expansion?

Nov 30, 2012, 1:17 PM

If SEC adds Clemson-GT-FSU, then they lock any other conference out of competing for those markets.

Would have TN-SC-GA-AL-MS-LA totally locked up.
