I trust David Hood's evaluation and believe him when he says

Dec 31, 2022, 2:04 PM

the Clemson defense was gassed. My question is why in the Hell would that be the case. Our offense ran 101 plays to Tennessee's 64. We made 35 first downs. We had the ball 36 plus minutes plus to 23. Tennessee's defense wasn't gassed. Why in the hell was ours. Can someone please explain that one.

Honestly Tenn’s defense was gassed and had hand on hips, but we could not capitalize. Great between the 20’s.

All we needed to do was run the dang ball

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We ran the ball 45 times and passed 56 times.

Dec 31, 2022, 2:52 PM

That's tremendous balance. Our 45 rushes were 7 more than our season game average.

In one of the most productive offensive seasons in Clemson history - the 2018 national championship season with ETN, we ran the ball 36 times a game.

A lack of running the ball was not why we lost.

A lack of running when it counted (in the redzone and on their side of the field) was a major issue.

No the lack of production while attempting to run the ball is the problem.

The best I could tell you is that Tennessee's hurry up, no huttle is extremely difficult on any defense. It's hard to sub, taxing on d-line & almost impossible to make presnap adjustments.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I trust David Hood's evaluation and believe him when he says

Dec 31, 2022, 2:16 PM

We didnt adjust to that. Hurry up-no huddle means stack it and keep it in front of you, nobody will flag and fly in the slot and by definition, there are limited options and reads. Play it exactly like a red zone…we didnt change anything and it was painful and frustrating to see.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Some of you sound like buffoons pretending to understand the game of football.

Dec 31, 2022, 2:48 PM

We played a ton of guys.

We used a ton of formations and disguises.

Guess what, relatively speaking, UT didn't do too much against it either. UT had ONE sustained drive for a TD. Three long passes for 3 TDs, and a turnover on down very short field for their other 3 pts.

It seems some folks nowadays literally sit around inventing ways to create negative narratives. Your attempt failed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good point. Why don't we do that on offense.***

Dec 31, 2022, 2:16 PM [ in reply to Re: I trust David Hood's evaluation and believe him when he says ]

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, because the last 10 national championships were won by hurry up offenses.

Dec 31, 2022, 2:54 PM

But not really.

Maybe more teams should do it?

Gimme a break man. Tennessee's offense was not why we lost the game.

You used to be a pretty solid, common sense kind of dude. What happened man?

I remember when a school operated their offense like that and eventually built a juggernaut that won 2 national titles off of that hurry up no huddle

That was fun. Think the guys name was ummm Chad Morris that installed that.

It was such a fun system that allowed us to get the best QBs and WRs in the nation….that eventually won those two titles.

And then for whatever reason Tony Elliot and Brandon Streeter decided to go completely against that successful operation.

Are you okay man?

"And then for whatever reason Tony Elliot and Brandon Streeter decided to go completely against that successful operation".

I mean honestly, you cannot be serious with this bologna.

Would you like to see our stats, rings, and trophies from the time Elliot and Streeter took over? Coot?

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who are the "quality depth" guys we lost?

Dec 31, 2022, 3:13 PM [ in reply to We don't have any quality depth, partially because we have ]

What, do we have like 50 scholarships now?

A) we played a TON of guys on defense.

B) We weren't "gassed" at all.

Again, UT had ONE sustained drive, on their second possession. 2 TDs were bombs on broken coverages, and their 3rd TD was a long pass (on broken coverage) down to the 1 or 2 which led to a TD in the next play. Their other 3 pts came from a FG when we gave them the ball basically already in FG range.

The defense did well.

The offense did outstanding.. except for the red zone issues, which still need to further dissected.

These numbers have been posted ad nauseum, but they clearly show a dominant performance.. except for, obviously the biggest stat, scoreboard.

We ran 101 plays to their 66.

101 plays is the most we've ever run in a game.

We had 45 rushes and 56 passes. Outstanding balance.

We had 484 total yards to their 375.

We had 320 passing yards to their 251.

We had 164 rushing yds to their 124.

We had 34 first downs to their 21.

We were 7 of 19 on 3rd down conversions to their 3 of 13.

We had a 36:23 time of possession to their 23:37.

The defense wasn't gassed, and the portal had absolutely ZERO impact on us.

I love Clemson. I went their for 4 of the greatest years of my life. We had four straight 10-2 seasons, and everyone was as happy as pigs in slop. We have a fairly blue collar, down to earth fan base. Something changed. I guess it started around 2014/15. Once we reached the top of the mountain as took on a ton of newer fans, it kind of became a constant bitchfest with a segment of fans. A large segment of the fanbase truly believes we should be trotting into the national championship every year, or a season's a failure.

CM, you normally seem like a guy with good common sense. But when the sh!t hits the fab, you turn into a seeker of negativity. I don't get it.

We missed opportunities. Period. It freakin sucks man. We should have walked out of there with a sound victory. But the fact we lost had nothing to do with this coordinator or that coordinator, and it certainly didn't have a darn thing to do with losing "quality depth" to the portal. Depth and play on both sides of the ball were more than enough to win that game. Missed opportunities are the SOLE reason we didn't get it done. Now if we want to try and figure it out in a reasonable what, then that's cool. But my word man, let's not try to pull things out of our butt. Cool?

Have a good one, man.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So when the #### hits the fans, I look for reasons why?

their best linebacker to opt out. I've always heard we had good depth on the line and linebacker.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What makes you believe that?

Dec 31, 2022, 2:18 PM

I didn't see a gassed defense ar all. We held UT to 375 yds. They had ONE sustained drive for a acore. They had 3 long passes responsible for 3 TDs, and another extremely short field handing them a sure FG.

I didn't see a gassed defense at all. What did you see to say you believe that?

Dec 31, 2022, 3:22 PM

Believe me?

Please, explain what you saw in that game that makes YOU believe we were gassed ?

Did you miss the part where I explained they had ONE sustained drive for a TD, in their second possession? They had 3 long passes for their other 3 TDs, and their last 3 points were a defensive stop after giving them the ball in near sure FG range.

What the heck did UTs offense do? Now, if you want to talk about the blown coverages, that would be a good topic, but NOTHING otherwise indicated thr defense was gassed. What did YOU see?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They easily outscored us...I saw THAT***

Re: I trust David Hood's evaluation and believe him when he says

Dec 31, 2022, 3:38 PM

Oh they were gassed…their defense was more gassed than ours if you ask me. You could tell late in the game they weren’t getting the type of pressure on Cade that they had been getting earlier. We should have seized that opportunity, but the playcalling just wasn’t there especially in the red zone

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If we still ran an up-tempo offense, our defense would be used to seeing it.

Dec 31, 2022, 3:40 PM

But unfortunately, we abandoned that years ago for some unknown reason.
