I thought A. Scott was a 4.6/40 guy out of high school

Jan 1, 2015, 1:07 PM

I know that was what he was timed at "The Opening". He probably would have been a 5* had he had a better time. However, what a difference a year and a half can make. I don't know his 40 time now, but after watching him run vs SCar and Okla, it's pretty safe to say he's not 4.6/40 guy anymore. I think there was a noticeable increase in his burst from WF game to the SCar game. I wonder what kind of speed training he did in just those 3 or 4 weeks?

40 times differ

In shirt and shorts and what you actually run on the football field. Many athletes are MUCH slower when they're dressed in pants and pads with a helmet. Scott is one of those who's just as fast.

He has been taking SEC speed pills

40 yard dash time and football speed. Some kids just don't do well at the 40 but fly on the field.

justin miller was a great example to me

I don't know his 40, but he was football fast.

In fairness to Ellington's 40 time in the combine, believe he ran a 4.58, but he had a pulled hammy...He's straight line fast, and has ttemendous football speed. I always maintained he was a better true RB than Spiller, but Spiller was the superior athlete.

I agree with this.

Spiller is obviously the more dynamic player, but Ellington is the better RB.

I noticed in the OK game that he was much faster than Gallman on our first TD pass.

Just an athlete, man...

Getting these guys in from high school and putting them on a strength and conditioning program definitely helps... Its funny because on all the break out runs hes had, I couldnt help but think that Spiller would have been standing up in the end zone before Artavis got there...

Spiller was the fastest football player I have ever seen...and I have seen a lot of football games...I would give my 3rd nut to see what CJ could do in the spread attack offense...good god

Lots of guys have gotten faster since that '13 SPARQ combine

Jan 1, 2015, 2:44 PM

Artavis Scott - 4.62
Trevion Thompson - 4.73
D. Watson - 4.89
C. Register - 5 flat
Richard Yeargin - 4.99

None of these guys ran great a least on that day. I have a hard time believing Scott is still 4.6 and Watson is still 4.89 though. Just to give you an example of how much faster guys get, C. Kaepernick ran a 5.0 flat while he was there in 2005. Now he's a 4.4/ 4.5 guy.

Perhaps you're correct, but I believe it has more to do with "football speed" vs running without gear in a straight line...Adrenaline is also flowing on the gridiron, not so much in 40 yard dash...Take Sammy, ran a 4.44, which is FAST, but there are faster DB's....Ever seen Sammy caught from behind?
