What frustrates me about the Deshaun interview...

Sep 12, 2016, 10:33 PM

Surely somebody has spoken with someone from the OL? Receivers? Anyone? Why the #### is Deshaun taking all the heat?
I understand he is a humble guy. Mature beyond years. Leader. I get it.
But look. He can't carry the team and everyone on that roster needs to take a lesson from him.
Our poor offensive performance for the past two weeks was not just Deshaun's "negative energy" floating around.

It's my hope that by him stepping forward the OL and WRs will go to battle for him and play harder for him. I think this will motivate them and they will have his back. He's their leader and I think they have even more respect for him taking the heat for them. I think it's pretty genius leadership on his part. What a great player to call a Clemson Tiger.

Go Tigers!

Agreed. Quintessential-leader-type-shit. Love Deshaun. Now can we stop apologizing, talking about Ray-Ray's mishap and the drops and move on to SC STATE already? Tomorrow is Tuesday!

I think tigergrad2008 is spot on. We're about to see a different from what we've witnessed the first two weeks.

As much as I dislike Jameis Winston and all his antics he knows how to get his guys hyped up in the locker room.

Deshaun has to lead by example and we go as he goes.

I think the cool/calm demeanor is a virtue but might not be the right recipe for this 2016 team.

Amen, being a QB is being a leader, I think he recognized that and is going to step up in a big way the next two weeks

I think that DW has shown he is tougher than many believed and he isn't getting the extra protection that he received last year. The OL was especially protective of him last year because we were all concerned about his knee with the brace. He survived 2015 very nicely. Time for everyone to step it up a notch!

+1 for great analysis and I totally agree! This should light

He is the one who had all the pre-season hype. He is the Heisman candidate. Is he the problem? NO! You know how the news media and fans are.

It was this part that, IMO, summed it up for me:

Sep 12, 2016, 10:58 PM

"...You can tell my body language has been bad and then it spreads throughout the team and then it spreads throughout the fans...."

He is absolutely right. It doesn't change that others are responsible for their own performance, but, as the leader, his mood...which was reflected in his body language...was "felt" by others, which likely affected their performance. I know I personally noticed it at Auburn. It is not all even consciously internalized by those around him; instead, it is somewhat of an interpersonal phenomenon. The other players would have to consciously recognize what was going on, step up, and try to overcome it with a positive mood/body language. Since DW4 is the leader, it isn't hard to see how it is the trickle down effect. That doesn't make it all his fault, but that does come with being the "field general."

I admire him for recognizing that.

I think the discomfort on DW's face came mostly from the performances of his help on the field. I know his errors compounded the issues but his performance wasn't the real problem. Complacency was the problem. His complacency was not being successful in encouraging them to do their jobs. He's the leader and knows he could have done better with his men.

I wouldn't want to be the next DC that faces this bunch.

not quite in the mood to play. Sounds like whatever ailment Clowney suffered from (and still does). Either that or the true offensive leaders graduated last year.

My thoughts on that confession is that DW4 figures that he is the one that herds our herd of Tigers, so he feels it's his soul responsibility to herd them all in the right direction. And now he is taking ownership for it all. But that is the type of young man we have leading our Tiger herd, and I don't think that we could find or buy a better field general to lead the way to wherever we end up. I'm willing to follow just to see how far he can take us!!!

That's what good leaders do. Publicly take the heat for their team. Privately givem hell.

He's the undisputed leader

Sep 13, 2016, 8:28 AM

It's what leaders do they take all the blame. The offense is his responsibility. I'm sure others are taking blame too just not on the media stage.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I could be wrong - but I don't think you want the QB pointin

Sep 13, 2016, 8:52 AM

pointing the finger at the WR, OL, backs, etc.

He's the leader - he can take the heat and get the team behind him - the team knows whats going on - they just need a leader.

just remember we have fans and T-netters who can point the finger at all the people at fault

he said, 'It wasn't my fault. The problem was the other players and the coaching staff.'
