OK, it's time for some of you dumba$$es to explain yourselves

Please try to explain what happens between the 10 minute mark and the 21.5 minute mark. Because it ain't music. It ain't entertaining. It ain't anything other than nails on a goddammned chalkboard.

Phish have songs that are composed, the same every time, but very frequently their live performances of said songs will include improvised, unscripted jams that are never the same on any given night. Sometimes they’re awesome, sometimes they’re not. That’s my best explanation. It’s really more a genre than just Phish that do this. Ever hear some live Dead or Pink Floyd shows? Sorry you don’t like it, lots do.
Also, try doing drugs then listening.

Just finished listening to the one you posted, didn’t find it particularly egregious, in fact probably a decent representative sample of what they’re about. Maybe you just don’t like instrumental music? Some people only enjoy tightly composed scripted songs with lyrics, and that’s fine, I do too.
Some of their stuff, especially circa y2k really goes into outer space during the jams.

They used to be young and wacky and this stuff was fun for people on Alice Dee
Now it’s old dudes doing what they did 25 yrs ago
3.0 Phish is sober Trey Phish
Here’s the breakdown 00:00 - 01:18: Opening instrumental section, with "The Twang" by Fish on the hi-hat at 00:12;
01:19 - 02:51: "Pre-Nirvana" segment, which is sometimes very lengthy (e.g., 2/7/93, 4/22/93, 7/16/93);
02:52 - 03:34: "Nirvana" section (named for the feeling of enlightment, not the band);
03:35 - 04:53: "Mike's little solo-section" and the lead up to the first “Note;’
04:54 - 05:37: the first “Note” that Trey hits, followed by the lead-up to the…
05:38 - 05:54: second “Note” that Trey sustains, and then the lead up to...
05:55 - 06:10: the “Charge,” followed soon by the pre-”Boy” screaming;
06:11 - 08:17: “BOY!” and the Boy-Man-God-Shit-Wash-Uffizi-Drive-Me-To-Firenze (BMGS-WUDMTF) segment, before the…
08:18 - 09:48: “Tramps jam” segment, when Mike and Trey are typically on trampolines and Page solos;
09:49 - 13:32: the Jam segment (Trey typically leads it);
13:33 - 15:09: “Bass and Drums” segment (Mike and Fish rock out; this version contains Trey’s effects blending into its intro); and
15:10 - 20:32: Closing vocal jam segment.

obviously have not read the fu>cking book.
You really gotta be into Phish to really appreciate the nuances and intricacies of their craft, they are really good at it. The way they can sound one minute like they are all in sync, then each take a different turn then all come back together. It's good stuffs. Phish isn't my favorite, but I really enjoy them.
The vocal jams are weird AF some times

Love me some Dead, ABB, WSP, Umphreys, CBH and the ARU, you name it. Never, ever got Phish. In the 90's in my late teens,' it felt more like kids my age wanted the Dead experience but felt like the scene was packed with old geezers and wanted their own thing. They sought the lifestyle first and figured out how to like the music along the way.

"They sought the lifestyle first and figured out how to like the music along the way."
Never thought about it that way, but is true. I like some of the stuff they do, for sure, but never really got into 'em. Their shows and fans just aren't really my style.
I like Dead, ABB, Panic, etc. before I discovered LSD. Even moreso after, obviously. But I have to be pretty torched to enjoy a full Phish show.
Some songs and jams are sick, I will give em that. But a lot are really focking stupid.

but aint that the Jounge?
You can passively like them, you can like Heavy Things and Farmhouse and Bathtub Gin. You can like the occasional jam, or the well-done covers, you can like the drugs, you can like any of it. But the ones who are REALLY REALLY into Phish are into the minute details of the jamming, transitions, etc. Go read articles and stats on Phish.net. That place is a fan built nerd/stats paradise for jamming.

I’m blanking on the site that shows song rotation for Panic
EC is good for set lists and that’s about it, but panic stream is easier to navigate

The greatest American band ever was the Dead Boys. You know it, I know it, and even those who publicly deny it know it deep inside their very hearts and souls.

Lollapalooza '93. Or was it '94?
Also I saw Phish play at Waterloo Village in 1995. Great show. A dude surfed on top of a car, fell off, hit his head and died. After that we didn't get to have concerts at Waterloo Village anymore. When the show ended, my gf and I went to Hacklebarney State Park and pounded it out in the back of her 1988 Toyota 4runner. She drove stick in more ways than one.
Those were the days.
