New Story: Preseason MVPs. Lawrence, Joseph and Cain lead the way

Preseason MVPs. Lawrence, Joseph and Cain lead the way

Going into last season, it was easy to pick out the players that were Clemson’s best. It was almost too easy to pick out the guys that would be the offensive and defensive MVPs. This year it's a little harder. Full Story »

I do not think we had Cain in the 1st NC game with Alabama, I thought he was suspended? I think if we had either of them we would have beaten them the previous year.

Cain...If he learns how to catch the easy ones....watch out! ( see scar game). Could be one of our best ever if he gets the head screwed on tight.

I can't wait to watch this defense dominate. We have a pair of unblockable DT's that will demand extra attention and free up other guys to make plays. This year will be fun to watch. And I have to agree with Cain as the offensive MVP. This is his year.

Defensively, either Big Dex, Wilkins, or Joseph will be MVP likely imo.

Offensively, your pick without discussion of other possibles is a bit of a punt. I'll bet the season will show another standout as well. Cain will be there, but a QB or RB will be there as well as sure as rain. Yeah, I can't say which one yet as the coaches have their say on the starter.

I'll also suggest another WR will surprise many.

My guess is Tee Higgins. Everything I've heard is that he's something special. With a bit more meat on his bones, he'll be the next Nuk/Mike Williams.

Hunter could easily be the MVP, if he had played in every

game every year, he would have had much better stats. He was the most valuable receiver in first few games.

I'll agree with Coach Bates about beating Bama the first time. I'll even go out on a limb and say had we had either Williams or Deon we beat Bama. Even with Deon being a true freshman. Almost all of the strides that Deon has made is his maturity. He walked onto the field during Fall camp 2 years ago as a great receiver but had to mature a lot. As evident with his 3 games being suspended in 2015. Deon has lead the team in yards per catch the last 2 seasons. Go Tigers

Wilkins and Lawrence are no brainers

And easily the best two on defense.

I am not sold on Cain, he reminds me of Bryant with talent but not sure of his maturity or commitment to being the best. Frankly, if our QB (meaning KB) doesn't improve dramatically over his previous play, there is no way any WR will be the most successful or impactful. Hopefully the run game will be very good and our turnovers/punting will make significant improvement. That alone will win ten games.

I think the star will be Ray Ray McCloud

Aug 2, 2017, 2:31 PM

And CJ Fuller. Ray Ray has the talent to be a threat to score every time he touches the ball as long as he hangs on. TJ Chase has the same kind of lightning speed too. Feaster will be special too if his blocking for the QB picks up.

I love the fact that CJ Fuller has soft hands to make down field catches too. We are really loaded with talent on offense too.

I believe Hunter Johnson will win the QB job even though we will bring in KB at times. This kid has worked hard and was voted by his peers at the elite 11 to be the 1st player pick to start a team with and that screams leadership on top of his running ability and throwing ability that was rated #1 in 2017 class and he held on to it to the end.

Ok strike what I said before, Hunter Johnson will be our most valuable player on offense period!

Another standout Hood article

Aug 2, 2017, 5:32 PM

Two points: 1) Lawrence pick over Wilkins and Joseph shows Hood's awareness of just how unique Lawrence's mass and movement already is in college ball, and Wilkins isn't slowing down, and 2) Cain is a great skill player pick and IMHO Feaster and Johnson have the pedigree to challenge Cain. Two questions for Hood(s) and T-Net team: Is the defensive depth vastly superior to O depth, and who are Tigers who will go from bench to All-ACC performers this year? Mullen? Lamar? Anyone else?

Look for C.J. Fuller and Tavien Feaster to light it up from behind the OL.

CLELIN FERRELL ! I can't imagine a better defensive line than what we have this year! We will run the ball and play great defense and win a lot of games!

Wilkins is one of the most amazing human athletes I've ever

We'll have Co-MVP's...

Aug 3, 2017, 12:24 PM

on Defense...either Big Dex and Slash or Clenin and Kendall .

On offense...Deon Cain all the way .
