Tajh boyd

Oct 23, 2016, 2:50 PM

This may be kinda stupid but hear me out. The years with Tajh and him choking in some big games weren't all his fault. Our defense wasn't nearly as dominant as it is now and in reality it sucked. We only had one running back that had potential for meaningful production, out wide receivers were good but not really much aside from Sammy and Nuk the other ones weren't bad but they dropped a lot of passes and our o line wasn't as good. That being said tajh had more pressure to score than Watson because Watson has a good defense that can handle mistakes our offense makes but when we had tajh the defense sucked and would make mistakes hed have to make up for on offense. So what I'm trying to say is that if we switched the era's around and tajh was here now and Watson was there a few years ago Watson might not look as good as he does now. Don't get me wrong watson is awesome I'm just saying he has more tools and less pressure than tajh did and frankly he just crumbled under the weight of the whole team. I may sound like an idiot and forgive me but I'm my mind as a life long clemson fan it makes sense.

So your essential point is that Tajh would have been better with a better defense and Deshaun would look worse with a worse defense. Not exactly a "hot take"...

Lol. For a guy with a bad offensive line & only two receivers (Dwayne Allen & Adam Humphries wouldn't appreciate your post), he sure did put up some amazing numbers. :)

Yes, Mr. Brown! How could I have forgotten one of the team's most reliable, physical & clutch receivers. Regardless of whatever the point of this thread was / is, clemson will be hard-pressed to find another quarterback that will throw for 11,904 yards & amass 13,069 total offensive yards, & 133 touchdowns in his career. Tajh Boyd will remain atop the record books in many statistical categories for a long time to come.

Does no one realize my point is that tajh Boyd wasn't bad and that too many people criticize him

You do realize you started this thread with, "this may be kinda stupid but hear me out...", right? You used the word choke and then said Nuk & Watkins were the only two "good" receivers, consequently leaving out 3 others that all play for NFL teams. You're right, that is stupid.

Secondly, you made no mention of Chad Morris. He was the guy behind the curtain that was making those ridiculous numbers for Tajh & company possible. I don't think there's less "pressure" on Watson to score, but rather a more bland offensive scheme in place now compared to what Chad brought to the table. Some might even argue that there's MORE pressure for Watson to score because of the lofty expectations we, the fans, and the media have placed on him after last year! To say Watson has "more tools" is also a moot point. On paper, he may have more stars around him but their production certainly hasn't garnered the respect that Nuk, Humphries, Brown, Allen & Watkins did. No? And did you infer that Tajh crumbled under the whole team?

Yes, this thread is stupid.

I'm saying tajh wouldn't have as much pressure as he did and we wouldn't have lost some of those games And Watson would probably be the same. But we would lose some games because the defense opens up like a flood gate with Kevin Steele as a dc

Telegraphing WR's was his biggest problem.

The other things you mentioned also contributed.

What I said was completely rational and it's my opinion. Most of my opinions are facts but this is truly just an opinion.

Lost me as soon as you said Tajh choked

Oct 23, 2016, 3:38 PM

Go watch the LSU game or the one against Maryland where he led a huge comeback.

Yea I see your point but I've seen so many people bash him so I decided to give him credit. I don't think people know how to read and comprehend what i said because even if you had a 2 ounce brain it's easy to understand.

I think Tajh was a great college QB and great for Clemson

Oct 23, 2016, 4:29 PM

And led the new golden age of Clemson football. He also rarely choked and bailed us out when our defense was not too good.
I honestly don't think he was as good as Watson but think with the D and offensive line we have now he would have looked great - but probably not as good as Watson. As much as I love Tajh imo he was often bailed out by Nuk who could catch anything thrown in his vicinity and our offensive schemes helped him too. He was also a very tough resilient runner.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Um.........no.

Oct 23, 2016, 4:12 PM

Nowhere close.
Boyd would have lost against Louisville and NCSU. More than 2 or 3 turnovers, and he was toast.
He did win some amazing games...but he never beat the coots. Not one time.
Watson has lost one game he started and finished.
Yes, the tiger defense is amazing, but Boyd let his head get the best of him.
Ultimate reference: 2013 vs FSU.

Tajh is the Foundation That Clemson Offense is built on

Oct 23, 2016, 4:40 PM

I don't think DW has ever had a 4th and 16 moment. As for South Carolina, had Tajh had the fortune of playing the product that South Carolina is putting on the field during DW's years he would be undefeated too...Not only did Tajh have a cannon of an arm, he could use his body as a battering ram...DW never have 30 carries in a game like Tajh did against LSU. Tajh had a lot to doing with breaking the VT run they had on us with 2 wins in the same years.

Also, Chad Morris needs to wear some of the burden. Although I am a fan of Chad Morris, he called some crazy stuff that had us all scratching our heads.

Clemson caught GT and South Carolina when they were at their best during the Tajh years.

I don't like comparing them...they are both special.

Tajh did stay and play 4 years at Clemson and that cost him some draft stock. Had he left after LSU he might still be in the league.
