think a free education including books, meals and other school related expenses is a pretty nice compensation package. And if they need medical treatment due to a school related injury who pays the bill? Clemson?
The average student struggles as much as the student athlete trying to save money for laundry, gas, food, books, lab fees and other expenses.
College athletes leave school with a college degree, excellent contacts, and other perks unavailable to the average student.
Sure student athletes bring in a lot of money for the schools but so do some non student athletes. Do we start paying them too?
Where do you draw the line? Would paying some athletes will ignoring others open up law suits from those students who feel they should be paid too?
Paying students athletes will just create more problems for schools who have enough to worry about now.

if a student-athlete needed medical treatment, the cost was first billed to the parents medical insurance provider. Any remaining balance including deductibles and/or co-payments, were then covered by Clemson's medical insurance provider.

reason the football program should have to pay all the athletes who's sports don't bring in money. I think that these student athletes should be able earn money though. What was so wrong with selling some autographs? What is the harm in putting Boyd on a #10 jersey and giving him a % of those sales.

Because the % would be much higher for QBs at OSU, Texas, ND than other schools. Coaches would never use that as a recruiting too right?

Cause thats what it will mean. And Clemson is well behind when it comes to big time big money boosters who'd be willing to pony up huge dollars for "autographs."
It'd basically come down to paying for talent.

and the % would be higher for skill position players than that of linemen...not to mention linemen work much harder in practices (ie, live contact where as QBs, WRs, RBs have little or no contact.)

You would not go to see those guy just stand in the middle of the field and slam into each other.
Also the % doesn't have to be higher for any body. Simply accounting can keep the % level, so start talking in dollars already.

deal where the stats don't tell the whole story.
Could be because of the longevity of those positions compared to the "skill" guys who become less valuable if the slow down a step. Maybe because a team needs 4-5 tackles but so they don't have as many players down the depth chart that bring down the average.

Actually other students that bring in money for the school are compensated...I'm assuming you are referring to students doing research and the like, most grad students make enough money from the school to live on while they are in school, and other undergrads who work in labs are usually paid hourly as well
