Can anyone who watched the USC-Ute game

Oct 16, 2022, 12:08 AM

Explain why they added time to the clock at the end instead of taking it away on that long interception return that got called back? It seemed pretty obvious that whatever sort of inadvertent clock stoppage could have been worked out in a replay. In reality it gave USC at least one additional play.

PAC-12 “refs” tried to protect their favorite with an “inadvertent” TO.
Nothing like the ACC with Clemson.

I didn’t want to think that but watching it live it was hard not to conclude that.

That’s how the PAC-12 “ref” “explained” it.***

That is what I saw and Whittingham still needs to call it out in his presser.

And they also ignored a late hit out of bounds at the end of that play that would have moved usc back 15 yards from where they started their next play.

Glad Utah overcame the chicanery there.

Yes! It was most certainly a late hit! 10 out of 10 times.

Best Is The Standard

By rule

Oct 16, 2022, 12:14 AM

The clock stops when the ref signals it to stop which they (for some reason) erroneously did. At that point, again by rule, it shouldn’t have restarted without the signal from the ref. So the technical rule was followed. The clock goes back to the time of the inadvertent (or erroneous) signal.

The real question is why was any ref contemplating stopping the clock while Utah was returning the ball. It wasn’t like he was ever almost down.

I think it was technically an inadvertent whistle they said

Oct 16, 2022, 12:15 AM

The official call a TO with 13 seconds when the ball was still in play.
