this basketball team is a piece or two away from being..

pretty good. Along with Trapp coming back in a few weeks if Baehre can give any kind of production along with Jemison we could certainly finish in the middle of the pack. maybe a .500 ACC record?

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard

I think there are enough shooters on a hot night to hang w good teams but it seems the 3pt shots is about all we do or want to do. no dribble drive and no midrange game. the lack of anything like that will also be a problem. I also doubt guys coming off knee injuries are going to have much of an impact for a while.

you mean like amari rodgers i guess.

Have been pleased with I’ve seen thus far

For years I have hoped for a big city guard and Dawes appears to be a good addition to the team. Once Sims gets it going the team will be much better. This long road trip will tell us a lot.

That's a pretty extreme outlier***

Two different sports....

Basketball exposes people with injuries...particularly knees, ankles, etc....and especially on the defensive end.

More space to operate on a football field...breaks between plays, etc....

A. Rogers is amazing, but I agree with the other post that it will take time for Trapp/Baehre to get adjusted and make the impact.

The good thing is that others will have played a good bit by then and they can be eased in somewhat and after a few games they’ll probably be good to go.

If we can be decent enough until then....that is the question.

So is that piece or two an athlete,or someone who can actually play both ends of the court.
In the past we had athletes that could run,and sometimes gun,or could play defense, but could't hit the broadside of the net.
Good teams have athletes.Great teams have Basketball Players.

Tough to make that conclusion off of who we have played. The one team on our level upset us so...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes...and it has been that way for the last 8 or 9 years

Nov 22, 2019, 9:46 AM

Always a piece or two away.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I think if Brownell can have 10 more years, we can get to the level

where we might only be one piece away.

Be patient.

Nah. I think he actually meant 8 or 9.

We all know Clemson basketball history is not stellar. But we have had much more complete teams that were fun to watch.

Brownell had one of those. It was in Year 1.
(some credit to the sweet 16 team as well, but it was pretty obvious that success was not sustainable)

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don’t know if you’re trying to say that sweet 16

Nov 22, 2019, 11:43 AM

year was a fluke, but if so you’re incorrect. We were three points away from making it to the elite eight not to mention the fact that we were without our best player for the second half of that year. And quite honestly if last years team got a little bit more lucky and just one half of those buzzer beater finishes, (I believe there were 6 that were extremely close) they would’ve probably been a single digit seed.

Re: this basketball team is a piece or two away from being..

I think we will hang with most ACC teams for a half and then have a cold streak in the second half and/or miss free throws and lose by 8 to 12 in most games.

We will get blown out occasionally and might occasionally win a game against a better team because we don't have the cold streak or because the other team has a bad cold streak.

We'll finish in the bottom half (probably bottom quarter) and maybe make the NIT.

You know, just like most years with Brownell.

The team isn't an embarrassment but they also don't ever compete for championships.

Success to me would be finishing in the top half of the acc regularly and regularly making the NCAA tournament. We aren't there.

I am willing to give the coach a pass for another year or two because it looks like the recruiting has improved.

And if he ever wins in Chapel Hill, he can have a lifetime contract.

but hasn't a "piece or two away from success"

Nov 22, 2019, 11:30 AM

been pretty much our calling card in basketball forever. Then I heard it again the other day, I believe from Brownell himself:

We're "young".

But I would like to see some surprises emerge.

Its Tommy Bowden's football teams of the 90s and early 00s***
