Did any Juan else

Jan 14, 2022, 12:03 PM

Used to steal a tray from chitlicker or whatever the cafeteria was by McCabe atop the hill and use it as a sled when it snowed/iced while at school? Had a found memory of that. Hope some current undergrads are making similar plans for this weekend.

There's something in these hills.

I was in the shoeboxes and would walk to chitlicker

Jan 14, 2022, 12:54 PM

Because the food was better there than at Harcombe. Trays were plastic, but very sturdy. Easy to slip in between your back and backpack and walk out with.

getting my legs cut out from under me at the bottom of the road to the top of The Hill after riding a Harcombe tray down. Flipped chin first into the curb. My roommate looked at me when I got up and said, “dude, you have 2 mouths”

Somebody had slid under a car and was stuck, we were trying to stop people from sledding into them. One girl caught me right in the shins at full speed.

Started walking toward Redfern and flagged down a cop. He asked if we’d been fighting, if so we were going to jail not Redfern. Explained what happened whilst bleeding all down my coat and he finally took us to Redfern. As I warmed up in the car, the feeling returned to my face and it started to hurt like a ####. Several hours and 8 stitches later I was good as new.

You didn't have to steal them.....

Jan 14, 2022, 1:36 PM

We'd take the tiger stripe card and they'd actually check out a tray to you. This was early-mid 90's

I'm pretty sure in the '88-'89 timeframe....

Jan 14, 2022, 1:51 PM

they just stacked them up and people used them and brought them back.

It was a more innocent time :)

Then the early 90's hit and that girl died falling off the quad 3rd floor and it all got dark after that.

with cameras and the internet when I was in college.

Buying and developing film was expensive enough and the end result was double prints at best that would take a lot of time to circulate.

Better then than now

Jan 14, 2022, 2:51 PM [ in reply to That's a pretty good metaphor. ]

I wouldn’t want to be a feller in today’s college atmosphere. Thinking back to all the things I never got a consent form signed for or even asked if it was ok before making a move… those guys and gals would have had my hide nowadays.

and I've used the "best time of your life" phrase forever, but with all the walking on eggshells and potentially life-ruining landmines you've gotta navigate these days, I wonder if they really will be the best times of his life.

Do beer and pot still exist? I think it’s probably still just fine.

I know that killed frat parties and the quad and banned kegs on campus. We had to establish a regular Johnstone Underground just to get booze into the dorms in the early 90's.

Jan 14, 2022, 2:32 PM

doing a quick search looks like it was Dec 1989. I would have bet a lot of money that it was 1991 and I would have been wrong.

Her death really changed Clemson campus and downtown life.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jan 14, 2022, 2:41 PM

somewhere between #1 and #3 in Playboy's "top party school" rankings every year, right? Definitely a different time from now. Pretty sure some of the kids I saw on our tour didn't know where the stadium was.

Jan 14, 2022, 4:17 PM [ in reply to those years right before she died were when we were ]

Bring your cooler, stand around drink beer and there were security guards that sure no one broke in your car. Nothing better than being drunk and throwing beer bottles at frat boys climbing light poles.

That also killed keg bowling in Johnstone as well.
