I still do not get the Georgia lure for prospects

I understand they likely get NIL $$$, but, when the fall comes around, all they can safely be assured is that they will beat the directional schools and the lamecocks every year. Georgia will lose to better coaching on almost every occasion.

Can't argue with the beauty of those "Georgia Peaches".

You obviously have not been to many Georgia games. I lived in Athens through an entire football season. They have quite the collection.

Aside from that I think any recruit would be attracted to Georgia. Sure they can't seem to get over the hump, but they have a perennially great program that lands alot of players in the pro's which is probably the bigger goal for most recruits when they join a program than winning the NCAA title game.

Well, I lived in South Georgia from 2010 to 2014. Local media had no mention of Ga Tech football ever (not even the score in the Sunday paper). They ran UGA stories daily and then the hunting and fishing updates. Occasionally a mention of UF or FSU. Every third mailbox has a UGA logo from just south of Atlanta all the way to the Florida line. The fan base is huge and rabid. They win lots of games. You can be third string and still play in the NFL - you lose count of the number of TB's that have played in the NFL. They sell out a 92,000 seat stadium for almost all games. They play in the countries toughest conference. So it's example "A" of a football factory where everything else is secondary. It's always been that way and it always will be that way. They may have down years with 3 losses but down years in recruiting never happen. Helps to be in state with all that talent and no direct competition. BTW, in South GA the kids grow up playing football. Soccer is played on Sunday afternoons at the local parks and the participants are Latin. It is a different world and it revolves around football - both HS and UGA.

If how cute the girls were mattered the College of Charleston would be Alabama. And our combined record over those same years is better. So I’m not sure I see your point.

And it flies in the face of all this transfer portal stuff so you know it's NIL related. It stands to reason that these guys will transfer soon if they're not getting PT unless an NIL contract locks them into staying a minimum amout of time. They're stacking 4 and 5 stars 3 deep.

They have a huge fanbase and football dedication. Athens is objectively a great college town (not that that matters that much to recruits anymore as they spend most of their time at football facilities and with teammates.) they have an attractive brand to some (not to me, I’m not a red and black fan but some like it) .

Also at Georgia a recruit would have the opportunity to be a part of the first team since 1980 to win it all. Would become a legend. As opposed to being just another cog in a system at Alabama.

Lots of good points in the last couple of responses. You make a great point about the UGA recruits who finally get that national title. I think that "legend" (and this ought to stir up things around here) will be Stetson Bennett. I think UGA will beat Michigan and then beat Bama. Bennett will QB those wins and his story will be legend.

Dec 15, 2021, 11:21 AM

is how they and others can get top 5 classes year after year, with no outliers. Maybe I am just more aware of our players going to the portal because it is my team (and it is one way), but I don't seem to see quite the number of UGA, BAMA, and OSU players in the portal. They just stack up those depth charts, and kids stay.

One BIG advantage they have is the the state of GA is loaded with football talent. Many kids naturally grow up wanting to play in-state.

That being said, I've always suspected that their boosters take care of the rest. I've seen too many commitments from kids who were seemingly never interested in UGA flip to them at the last minute.

Cheating may happen everywhere, but some schools are definitely better at it than others.

Absolutely correct, UGA will always be the10-2 almost there until they run Kirby off and try again. Mark Richt was the same before him. They got 1 single trophy way back when any team with Herschel was gonna win it no matter what. They live in the definition of an echo chamber down there and don’t believe they’ve ever been beaten and nobody is gonna beat them. Bless their hearts, they just can’t get right.

Last time UGA won the big one. No real pressure to win, the last 40+ teams didn't.

I think all the recruits care is that UGA gives them a good opportunity to go pro.

Re: I still do not get the Georgia lure for prospects

The last Georgia game I was near was what they call a "blackout". All the young women had black sun dresses on and there was no shortage of above average pretty. What really got me was that the stadium seats 92,000 people and well over 400,000 people showed up for the game. They have a great family football tradition even though the front campus gets about knee deep in beer cans on game day.

So yeah, I can totally understand why many recruits would jump at the chance to play at Georgia. Actually, any team in this area would be a great place to play. You would have to see how pathetic the Northeast is for football to truly understand how fortunate we are here in the Southeast.
