I sort of miss having an in-state rival in football.

My coot friends and family won’t even discuss football anymore. We have to go back to arguing over religion. The gamecocks are now the third best football program in the state, and they won’t even deny it

UGA is our true regional rival. UGA and Notre Dame will be mainstays in Clemson schedule over the next 10 years. If UNC, FSU, MIA and UVA pull a little weight, the ACC will also hopefully recover.

SCar is consistently the most detrimental P5 opponent to our SOS and a bottom of the barrel draw not just regionally, but also nationally, so I know there were some internal discussions at Esso about the practicality of adopting Coastal, the only other top-50 program in the state, as our full-time rival moving forward. Food for thought.

Which begs the question: should we play Coastal the last game of the season each year and place UofSC in the rotation with ElCid-Furman-SCSU?

sense to play them. They broke the consecutive year’s rivalry streak to avoid the seventh consecutive loss, so there really is no reason to play such a weak school every year. All they do is lower our SoS.

I was referring to the 100 consecutive years of playing each other. Yes, the win streak continues regardless.

Be careful what you ask for. I am loving it right now and will never forget how bad it was losing to them 5 years straight 2009 - 2013. I would just as soon beat 25 years straight.

I can’t see any good reason for them to ever beat us again.

Thinking Coastal Carolina, would challenge the second string players more than the 1st team of Carolina.

I get what you’re saying, but after growing up in the lower part of the state near Cootlumbia, then living in Cootlumbia for 20 years during their 5 years of glory, I want to see Clemson beat the ever-loving snot out of them for the next 60-70 years at least. Alabama fans would never want to see Auburn be competitive, neither would Ohio State like to see Michigan be competitive again.
I never want to see them do well in anything. They’re bottom-feeders and I hope they remain bottom-feeders in everything, especially football. And I love how quiet their fans are, at least the ones with any sense. It’s like they know their place now.

No, I just wish the state of SC had been stacked with 4 & 5 *s during their plunge into the abyss.

It’s actually funny you mention that cause that thought crossed my mind earlier today. It’s fun talking a little junk back and forth and actually having conversations about football with each other. You are 100% correct in them not ever wanting to talk football anymore. I really do miss it. But I always dreamed of the days where we blew them out every single year.

Yeah that’s exactly what I’m talking about actually, used enjoyed hearing them talk about SEC blah blah blah, you guys would get blown out in every game if you were in the SEC blah blah blah cluck cluck. Then I point out actual facts and go back-and-forth. Now there’s nothing but crickets…
