Not sports related, but what is Clemson like today?

Jan 14, 2022, 4:07 PM

I got by degrees in ECE (electrical and computer engineering) in 75 and 77. I had a very good education at a price of what would be one spring break trip for a rich kid today and I have had a great career. My blood runneth orange. But I have not been on campus in years - what is it like now in terms of focus on woke or other politics versus emphasis on education, education, education?

Put it this way... while all campuses have a certain amount of wokeness and liberal politics these days, I still consider Clemson as one of the more conservative universities in the nation. Clemson is also approaching elite status in many parts of the US. I'm proud I was graduated from Clemson in 1985, and I'm even more proud that my son is now a sophomore.
My blood runneth orange, and it always will!!!
Go Tigers!!!

I don't know about that, but the physical campus itself is

almost unrecognizable compared to what it was back then. (I graduated in '76, amazingly enough). My old Earle Hall (H-ell?) Chem E building is one of the few to appear unchanged.

Even the old neon "Clemson House" sign that I used to look for at dusk upon returning to campus on the rare Sunday evening that I had gone home for the weekend, has gone the way of the Dodo.

Seems I read there was a move afoot to reinstall it somewhere at some point. It should be done, just for nostalgia's sake if nothing else.

If Bart Knijnenburg tracks down McKissick, my money is on McKissick. lol

I was fortunate enough to attend (74-78) when students had no idea if a proff was conservative or liberal. You could only guess a few.

I return to campus very often.

Not easy since I’m 80 plus and hours away but I notice every time I go I see “wimmens” everywhere. It sure wasn’t like that in 1964 when I walked across the stage. AND, now you can actually buy a ‘cool one’ right downtown.

I think that Clemson is quite a bit easier today than it was 50 plus years ago. What hasn’t changed?

It’s still heaven to this woodsman and ALWAYS will be.

Certainly not the Bedford Falls I knew

grewing up there. Just the times, really. Buttoned down security, suspicious road blocks, very badly placed speed bumps at Prez House intersection with all that development there (should've put walkover bridges there), "High rise" condos everywhere, though surprised the Astro III theatre building remained as long as it did. It's still kinda' nice to drive back through the old-money paper route neighborhood behind the Esso Club though.
