I remember as a student thinking “man it would be awesome to be a top-15 program”

Nov 6, 2017, 9:35 PM

I started at Clemson in 2006 and we got Gameday for the first time. Homecoming vs GT (even spent all week building floats on Bowman). Then got demolished at VT.

But I remember one day in the stands, probably Sophomore or Junior year (when Bowden was still around) while sitting in a packed stadium in my fraternity’s block thinking — as Dale Gilbert read scores from around the country — how awesome being a top-15 program would be.

Enjoy it, kids. The SENIORS now don’t even know what unranked feels like!

Go to Tigers!

I remember the early 70s when we went 3 and 7. Lol. Saw two games live. Auburn 44 to 0 and Alabama 56 to 0. Times have changed. We need to enjoy it

I was at that Bama game. I think that's the game that they crossed our goal line more times than we crossed the 50-yard line. But the "Million Dollar Band" was pretty awesome IMO.

Man you had it good. I was here for the Hatfield/West years

I grew up a Clemson fan. I saw the 1st Natty with my baby sitter as the parents were at the game.
I watched the Danny Ford years through grade school. There were good to great teams, but always lose one of those frustrating games a season. Danny got fired around 10th or 11th grade. Hatfield took over. He started out good with Danny's players, but by the time he got fired the cupboard was bare and you could see we were not good. Tommy West wasn't much better. We lost to UVA for the 1st time ever on my watch. We were pretty much terrible. We would lose on Saturday and Saturday night would be a ghost town. I am so glad everything is changed for the better. The school is better. Its just the best place in the world. Go Tigers!

My JR year we tore down the goalposts after beating coots to win our 3rd game of the year.

Also that was tge coots 10th loss in a row on their way to 20 something consecutive.. haha, coots.

So yes, being "the bar" that all but maybe Bama aspires to is phenomenal.

I remember walking from this game being super embarrassed

When the posts came down, I just shook my head

I just wanted to play a top 15 team to a close loss

But I went to school in the 4 years we had Tommy West and Rick Barnes. We were a basketball school then.

It was tough but I endured the 80s when Ford was coach.***

I started watching and following Clemson football in the late 50s. Endured every heartache you can imagine. Loving this great time in Clemson history.

'73 grad here: Never saw a winning season ... not a one.

Think about THAT for a while.

I've been to every home game since 1971 and many away games and bowl games. Both National Championships that we won. These are the best if times. And news just broke, looks like another 5* OL headed our way... GO TIGERS

You should have been there during the Tommy West era.***
