I remember all this "fire Brownell" talk after the slow

Jan 4, 2015, 1:57 PM

start and blowout loss to Pitt last year. Then as the season went along we got much better, and if not for a terrible call against that same Pitt team in the final home game we would have made the NCAA's.

It hasn't been 5 years; we're in the midst of year 5. I (obviously) agree it's time to show some forward progress in the program. Bust as of today, I have no idea how the season will pan out or if Brownell will make it in Tiger town, but I do know it's too darn early in the season to fire the coach.

For us, missing the NIT will be a lot like sex with Jameis

We can kick and scream all we want, but it's going to happen.

I seem to recall swoffy saying FHRITP when he drafted our schedule.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He visited the hospital last night

Jan 4, 2015, 2:08 PM

for a medical condition lasting more than 4 hours.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who did? Swoffie

Jan 4, 2015, 2:10 PM

Hopefully he will have to resign.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, he was watching his heels get deep up in our guts

Jan 4, 2015, 2:47 PM

It turned him on.

the very same walmart fans who were begging last year to get him firmed up before someone came along and stole him.

The current mood seems to be that he will have several more

years regardless of performance, given his salary structure and the new coliseum upgrades. Not seeing the firing talk.

He may turn the season around, but we don't have a KJ McDaniels on this team and our defense is nowhere near previous years. The losses so far this year are to much lesser teams than last year.

I think there is valid reason for concern at this point in the season. Attendance is going to decline if things continue. The success of Frank Martin in year 3 will put additional pressure on Clemson.

This just doesn't feel like a "turn it around" kind of year.

Jan 4, 2015, 2:50 PM

I'm not hoping for a bad one but this team just seems on another level offensively challenged.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I get what you're saying, but

Jan 4, 2015, 3:07 PM

I'd rather wait until the season's over to judge it as a whole. Brownell will likely be here for the no-home-game season regardless, so all the bitching and moaning this early in the year seems to be a waste of time even for the usual b!tch-at-the-first-sign-of-adversity crowd.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would never say fire a coach, because I'm not qualified to

Jan 4, 2015, 3:21 PM

make that call! But I will say losing to Winthrop, and Gardner Webb, getting pounded by usuc, and destroyed by UNC in Littlejohn ain't too awful good. I just can't figure how a team can shoot that poorly as I saw yesterday on their home court to a very beatable nort carolina squad.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is mind bottling. It is hard to watch.

Jan 4, 2015, 3:29 PM

Yet, I keep watching because this is our Tiger team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Firing Brownell is POINTLESS until the Administration, fans,

Jan 4, 2015, 3:43 PM

AD, President... indeed ALL of Clemson University is serious about basketball

Otherwise it'll be more of the same.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't disagree, but the University must lead the way.

Jan 4, 2015, 4:01 PM

I have always thought Brownell was a very good coach and I have always supported him. His success here, however, has always hinged on his ability to recruit, and for the most part, he has failed in this area. I agree that this may not be totally his fault, and recruiting would be difficult for almost any coach until the university makes a very serious, public commitment to basketball. The new facilities are a big part of that. Unfortunately for Brownell, the timing may be wrong for him, and canning him over the next couple of years may be part of a needed new direction to reinforce that commitment. I believe the fan support would be there if we were serious about basketball and put a competitive team on the court.

Please stop the madness. The program is much worse than what he took over. And I don't see much hope down the road. Now if some of you are thrilled by going to the NIT every year, and having a slight chance at an 11 seed in the NCAA if we could only win the last five games and make it to the semis of the tournament, be my guest. Brownell teams usually play hard, but that's about it. I am sure they will improve this year. They can't get much worse. But if CU wants to say basketball really doesn't matter, then I think Brownell is your guy, because things are going in the wrong direction and zero progress is being made.
