I recall BV not leaving OU on the best terms...

Nov 28, 2021, 8:57 PM

Mike Stoops was brought in and BV was demoted to 'co-DC'. OU earnestly wanted to keep BV, but he had had enough and told the Stoops brothers to take the job and shove it.

Probably still some bad blood there and neither party is interested.

He didn’t tell OU to shove it.

He left for a better job.

Yep. One of the dumbest moves in college football in the last 10 years.

Living here in NTX I have occasions to talk with Sooner fans. Full disclosure, most Sooner fans don’t even want to make eye contact with a guy in a Clemson hat. However, every once in a while I’ll run across a Sooner fan with enough self confidence that he wants to talk football…..and those rare guys??? Without exception, they bring up that losing BV was a disaster. Every one of them says it.

Same here. I work with a few and they don’t discuss football with me too often. Overall good folks though. They didn’t realize what they had with BV until he was gone.

You are right Bob tried to screw him over. Dabo jumped at that opportunity, and because Dabo is a man of character, Brent trusted him. The people here in OK even think Bob was an idiot for doing that, granted hindsight is 20/20 for these folks.

I was thinking the same thing. Double Venables would go to OU even if the money is good...
