Oregon vs Oregon State to Drop Rivalry Name

Jun 26, 2020, 3:51 PM

Oregon, Oregon State drop 'Civil War' from rivalry
https://www.thescore.com/wcbk/news/1979960

I guess people from Oregon didn't get the news that Southerners refer to the war as the War Between the States and not the Civil War.

and the Dixie Chicks are now just "The Chicks".

I guess Nike owns Oregon

Jun 26, 2020, 3:58 PM

So Oregon must have been "the south"? You know, pro-slavery and such.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

These pansies should just call it

Jun 26, 2020, 4:03 PM

"The Civil Encounter"

Re: Oregon vs Oregon State to Drop Rivalry Name

Jun 26, 2020, 4:46 PM

So we're now eliminating references to the epic conflict that ended slavery?

Dennis Dixon and both university presidents either don't know or don't care that The Civil War is a term common to many conflicts in many countries. It rarely connotes that one side perpetuated slavery. Can we still use it to talk about Spain? Or England? Or Russia?

Nevertheless the dumbing down of America continues.

And so does the disrespect and dishonor for legitimate heroes. Over 300K Northerners died (ostensibly) to free the slaves. Never mind them. Let's just pi$$ on everyone who lived back then.

These modern geniuses have really taught me a lot about respecting others who are different from me.

not Related to those reasons

Jun 26, 2020, 5:00 PM

But I always thought that was kinda a dumb name for that rivalry and that it gave that rivalry more attention that in deserves

They both should be called "No Nads U." !!

Now they’ll have to go with what everyone else has been calling it for the last 90 years, “The Pillow Fight in the Rain”.

I always thought it was in poor taste to make war on beavers

Jun 26, 2020, 6:16 PM

anyways. Maybe that's where the old saying "Make Love, Not War" originated? :)

I am so sick of the BS everyday. IMO all these names changes, tearing down statues , and trying to rewrite history has done more to promote racism than he has to heal a nation in trouble. So many people have last their freaking minds.

What is next ?? Bomb the Lincoln Memorial!!!

I don't know that it promotes racism but it's divisive for

Jun 26, 2020, 6:47 PM

sure. A logical discussion can bring smart folks together. All this crap is turning off folks that could have been on their side.

I have tried to make that point too because I totally agree with you Lakedude. I was called a ignorant person by a black friend telling me I don’t know what it’s like to be black.

I tried to explain to him that at some point in time most every race has endured some form of being enslaved and oppressed. He did not want to hear that. He is looking at the current problems with blinders on blaming only white people.

I even told him I have done hours of research. From this I found that the first slave owners in the Colonies were blacks who owned blacks. Then I ask him what he thought about the problem with black on black crime. All he could focus on was white racism.

When I suggested violence would not solve the problems that open communication was needed He disagreed again saying I did not understand black peoples problems. Then I told him this is why honest communication is crucial to making a better future for all of us. I told him over the years that life for black people has gotten much better, pointing out how many more opportunities blacks have now than 60 years ago. He replied I was ignorant because what I was saying was not true. Blacks lives we worse now than ever.

Fact is there will always be racism in the world but IMO for the most part people want to get along.

He honestly believes lives of black people are worse now than 60 years ago? Good grief has he ever talked to his grandparents?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I often think about more current atrocities than slavery

Jun 27, 2020, 1:20 AM [ in reply to Re: I don't know that it promotes racism but it's divisive for ]

Like the Concentration camps of the Japanese in the US during WW2. Thousands died and were gathered up solely due to heritage. What about the Latin immigrant babies that are left in facilities, camps, tent housing, thousands have died in the last 10yrs where parents got arrested, captured trying to cross the border. You don't here them protesting to tear down America, and most have better lives now than ever dreamed of in native lands. Same for most blacks in America, how many would trade their life here for a new life in their native lands? Let me guess, ZERO!

I will never say that racism hasn't occurred but others make the best of it and love where they live. People tearing down America does nothing to improve relations. Where is the outcry for the 104 ppl shot in Chicago last wknd. 90% were black on black shootings.

Blacks have intersocial issues that really need to be resolved but that doesn't get the attention like racial injustices has currently. Soon as elections are over the media will find a different agenda because no matter who is elected the media can't change future for at least 4yrs then.

So tired of this crap!

Just to clarify - Southerners, historically, refer to the war as the War of Northern Aggression.

Isn’t there a group of aborigines or pygmees that use the same word for around 50 different nouns and verbs throughout their language? I think they just alter the inflection or something.

As we begin to strike all these offensive words from our vocabulary, do you think we will one day revolve into a culture that has to use just a few words like the pygmees do?

Not that many fans even call it that anymore.

But...many textiles are made of cotton...especially “back in the day”... Just sayin.
