Over thrown balls

Oct 3, 2016, 2:01 PM

Thought I heard during the broadcast that Watson put on ten pounds of muscle during the off season. Is there any possibility he does not know his own strength now? Maybe if he stopped working his upper body this would help?

I literally just laughed out loud !! Nice call !

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he did it last year too - he figures it safe to miss deep

Oct 3, 2016, 2:21 PM

safe to miss to deep but your are likely to have your receivers come back for the ball or draw a PI if you under throw. This wold not be a problem if we had a blazer like Sammy or Jacoby but we have guys that are fast and tall so go up and get it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

On the 3rd quarter INT he missed deep too.***

thrown behind the route. Seemed like Watson was off with the timing or else the game wouldn't have been in question.

Re: I thought there was more of a problem with passes

Can anyone confirm if Watson worked with one of those QB "gurus" during the off season? Seems like Boyd regressed after working with George Whitfield. Maybe he's thinking too much about technique and as a result ending up aiming the ball vs his more natural throwing motion. Otherwise it's a mystery to me why he's been so off on his throws.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know if that's it or just the stress of playoff

Oct 3, 2016, 3:15 PM

expectations, Heisman expectations, etc. Or maybe Senioritis, or maybe fear of injury before NFL draft, etc. Who knows.

He's the man, and he's pulling us through in the clutch. But yeah he's definitely a little off this year so far.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree it's the pressure.

Oct 3, 2016, 7:47 PM

Had Clemson won the title last year, even though the expectation would be the same, Watson and the team would have played so much better. I think the pressure at Clemson this year is probably greater in anything in the NFL. Over there, it's about money at the end. At Clemson, when you love it so much you want good things to happen at your university.

Knowing for fact that Clemson has never won a title for a long long time and has never had a Heisman Trophy winner, Watson probably wants them so much, not for himself, but for the university he loves.

This may not be just Watson, but it's the whole offense. They're together on this.

I got a feeling that, with the win over Louisville, a hefty weight has been lift off Watson's shoulders. So, we could see the offense's explosive form again. If we beat Boston College by like 3 TDs, considering they're #1 defense in the nation, this will confirm my thought.

and throw behind receivers on slant routes. I think the muscle has thrown him out of kilter a little. He needed to beef up some just to not get killed, but he probably has not adjusted for his added strength throwing on a lot of plays.

the Int was behind him and even the one mike caught for a TD late in the game was a bit behind mike too, it's just a timing issue i'm sure they'll see it on film and clean it up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There was one to Cain as well where he turned around and

Oct 3, 2016, 10:52 PM

caught it and walked backwards into the end zone.

I think it's just timing, he's not releasing the ball soon enough on those plays. He just needs to find his groove.

Re: Over thrown balls

Oct 3, 2016, 2:42 PM

It cost us maybe 28 points and 20 points off of turn overs so we really could of kicked there ###.... Like 68-16 that would of been nice

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you even stop to think that maybe he's throwing the deep

Oct 3, 2016, 2:47 PM

passes the same as last year but our receivers got slower? Did you ever think of that? Moran

Re: Over thrown balls

Oct 3, 2016, 7:07 PM

He could have atleast 10 more TDs if not for drops and bad throws.
He is getting better tho, I think he is trying to be too perfect.
He has 14 TDs now I believe he is getting ready to show out.
I say he ends up with close to 40 .

Re: Over thrown balls

Oct 3, 2016, 7:08 PM

It's difficult no matter how many reps, to put the ball on the money when you have to adjust your timing based on who the receiver is. Mike, tay, ray ray, hunter, Trevion, Leggett, deon, Powell all have different speeds and come out of routes differently

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Know who I blame?

Re: Over thrown balls

Oct 3, 2016, 10:30 PM

You pretty much have to be on the coaching staff to know whose fault the "over thrown" ball is. Was it really over thrown? Was it a timing route and the receiver was not in the right place at the right time?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, he only completed 65% of his passes & 2 or 3 were dropped

Oct 4, 2016, 2:26 AM

So yeah, he threw a lot of bad passes! :) I haven't seen a QB yet that puts 100% of his passes on the money. Tom Brady doesn't, Peyton Manning didn't, Brett Farve didn't. Heck, even Lamar Jackson doesn't!
