Dabo critical of Cade. WHY?

Dec 31, 2022, 5:49 PM

I wish Dabo would be equally critical of others

Dabo has called out Cade for taking sacks on hot rushes.

How about calling out the O Line man (or men) who missed their blocks or the coach who didn't prepare the O Lineman or the coach who should have prepared Cade for that?

How about Dabo call out his son who should have pitched the ball?

How about Dabo call out the DBs who got bear BADLY by wide receivers by 5+ yards?

Dabo has been more critical of Cade after this one game than he was of DJ all year. And Cade at least got us in the red zone almost every drive. With DJ, there were numerous 3 and outs. Not so with Cade. Give Cade credit for that. Blame yourself or other coaches for play calling in the red zone.

I could tell that Cade was seeing the whole field on almost every play. I rarely if ever saw that out of DJ.

So Dabo, maybe you should be directing yout criticism at others and heaping praise on Cade.

Go Tigers!

It's honestly extremely weird. He has a chip on his shoulder with the DJ thing and Cade gets the crap end of the stick for it.

And there's the answer for the op. Cade won't make it through a season if he continues to take those hits. Especially at his current size and weight. I think the game needs to slow down for him a little and he'll be a great play maker.

Re: He b!tched about him in the spring game too.

Jan 2, 2023, 8:37 PM

Well the getting hit to much would've been solved if his OC wouldn't have had 13 straight passing plays at one point in his pass happy offense and stop abandoning the run. Shipley and Mafah could've kept it going after the constant stalling around the Tenn 30 all night. 14 pts on 100 plays is still absolutely insane

Cade made some big errors as did others. Dabo did not just point out Cade so maybe you should log off for a couple of days/weeks until you are emotionally able to handle the truth?

Re: Dabo critical of Cade. WHY?

Dec 31, 2022, 6:11 PM

I think Cade was the only player Dabo singled out for making mistakes. Still waiting for any criticism of Drew, Pride, McFadden ... or anyone else. Obviously Potter was singled out, but didn't seem as sharp as the criticism of Cade.

PS: I thought Cade scrambled pretty good last night. Just had no one open. Should Cade stayed in the pocket and gotten sacked? Or thrown it away everytime he got pressured? Maybe the receivers need to get open.

Dec 31, 2022, 5:55 PM

I hear you. Maybe Dabo knows that Cade responds well to a bit of criticism, whereas DJ did not. Just a guess. He's worked with his players in practice, video sessions, etc. Has spoken with the parents. May just be Dabo treating each person the way he feels is best for them. I could be wrong, hope I'm not.

While I don't disagree with the direction of your post, calling out Kathleen Swinney's son probably would come with a huge cost at home. I realize that's also Dabo's son, but most mothers would not react well.

Pathetic response by Dabo….let’s keep criticizing the very guy that our hopes rest on for the next couple of years! Not to mention he hammered Cade a gozillion times over the ND interception. If you want to be critical Dabo let’s start with yourself and your assistant coaches who have all failed these players. This is only part of a much bigger problems with where the Program is….again not far from the penthouse to the outhouse!

Dec 31, 2022, 8:05 PM

I don’t know what’s wrong with all these weird people on this board. You are right he gave compliments to Cade and pointed out the one area where he struggled. And that’s the only thing he would say about DJ also. He use to point out when DJ took sacks. That’s the only criticism I ever heard him say about DJ. So seems like he is being fair with the holding the ball and taking a sack take.

Re: Dabo critical of Cade. WHY?

Dec 31, 2022, 6:00 PM

For a true freshman starting his first game, I was overall very impressed with Cade. He made a bad decision to run the ball at the end of the first half and was slow to throw the ball away, but the kid was under duress for much of the game.

He had about as much green on his jersey as Oregon and his came the hard way.

Cade will be fine.

Re: Dabo critical of Cade. WHY?

Dec 31, 2022, 6:04 PM

You must have never played a sport. Most really good coaches treat players that have great potential differently because they have to be challenged. Part of becoming a leader is taking coaching and that is what Dabo is doing. The only thing I didn't like about the interviews was Dabo did not have much to say about Shipley.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dabo critical of Cade. WHY?

Dec 31, 2022, 6:18 PM

I don't think you criticize individual players publicly. That's something Spurrier would do. I expect much more from Dabo.

I suspect Dabo is criticizing Cade to defend his decision to play DJ all year. I'll go to my grave not understanding why Dabo didn't play Cade more this year.

2024 orange level membermilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Cade can handle the criticism better than DJ

Dec 31, 2022, 6:13 PM

I think DJ is mentally fragile and Dabo adapted to that.

Since Cade can take it and also because he's a freshman, Dabo felt free to dish it out.

I doubt very much Dabo will publicly chop on Cade as much next year.

Re: Dabo critical of Cade. WHY?

Dec 31, 2022, 6:14 PM

I think the whole offensive game plan was a complete overreach last night and we set up our QB for failure right out of the gate. We created a plan for tempo that was going to force a true Freshman to run over a 100 plays in his first start. Sure, nothing could possibly go wrong with that idea, right? You pick the Orange Bowl to make the entire offense run at a tempo they had not run all year?

What was wrong with the plan we had with Cade for UNC? Did we really think we needed a different plan for Tennessee (rhetorical question because clearly, we did think we needed to show something different).

I just think we asked the near impossible of a young man who had not had enough reps to execute a plan like that in his first start and kind of set up the entire offense to be "off kilter" with what they were used to doing all year. To me, it was a failed experiment and an unnecessary risk to take.

It feels like this staff has been 2 steps behind all year. I hope the offseason will get them back on track. Dabo said no one understands the problems better than him and he will get them fixed. I am certainly going to count on him to do just that and really hope he meant it and will do what it takes to bring it to fruition.

I think that Dabo’s mouth gets ahead of his brain.

Like that burger flipping comment about UT after their loss to South Carolina. Don’t think that wasn’t a big motivator for UT and their fans in this game.

He never hammered DJ. Never criticizes his coaches and their shortcomings.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dabo critical of Cade. WHY?

Dec 31, 2022, 6:26 PM

A lot to unpack with your post. I’ll respond to your concern about Dabo being ‘unfair’ in his criticism of CK2 vis a vis DJU.

Consider watching the ACC Networks post game commentary show from last night (this show gets re-run periodically).

Eric MacLain, Coach Marc Richt, and former FSU QB E.J. Manuel are among the commentators.

Each of these guys spoke optimistically about CK2’s future, but made it painfully clear … in their opinions … that CK2 made numerous big-time mistakes last night, and that Spring practice should start the process to get those mistakes cleaned up.

Dabo was far kinder in his evaluation & commentary about CK2’s play than were the (non-Clemson coaching staff) analysts.

You ask why Dabo had not been as critical of DJU this year as he was of CK2 last night? The reason is obvious to anyone who does not have a boy-crush on CK2 … CK2 made a lot more mistakes last night than DJU made in any game this year.

It is that simple.

All I seen was Dabo talking him up all game trying to keep him encouraged.
I played competitive sports and if I was not doing something correctly I wanted to know what I was doing wrong and how I could make it better. Pumping sunshine up my ### was not helpful. Cade seems to be a competitor and looks to be one that wants to be coached up.

Unimpeded rushers happen sometimes. Just the way it is

Dec 31, 2022, 8:21 PM

This is what a hot read is for. For every pass play, the QB and (either a RB or receiver) should know what the hot read is pre-snap.

Streeter admitted the problem was Tennessee disguised their blitzes very well. This was an admission they weren't prepared and got outcoached.

After the first couple of times, the coaches in the booth should have called down adjustments to stop the problem. Well, that didn't happen.

Jan 2, 2023, 7:50 PM [ in reply to Re: You realize on a hot read there is no blocker ]

QB has a hot receiver every pass play for this. QB has to make the read, you can't signal it in. CK in his first start missed some, really not a surprise. He'll learn, and when he does, he'll burn opposing defenses that blitz him.
