that I would ever say the following about a Clemson coach, especially Dabo. But his bizarre stubbornness regarding DJ leads me to think this is possible. Due to anyone's doing something completely out of their norm, with no explanation as to why, leads to all kinds of speculation, some even crazy like this. But, when you set yourself up for such speculation, you have to expect some really crazy stuff to be said.
Here's my crazy stuff.
I do not believe we will see Cade in the game against UNC in any situation except that which will lead to his failure. There is no way Dabo is going to let Cade in the game to save the day, or perform better than DJ. That would prove Dabo wrong regarding his DJ hill to die on. If we see Cade in the game, it will be with us behind, Cade will be brought in with us on our 2 yard line, and he will be handing the ball off on every play or scrambling for his life with the 3rd string OL in the game. He will have one series in which he is set up to fail and then be pulled.
Crazy? Yep. True? We will see.
I hope we don't see him in the game.

Yeah, winning the ACC title game with Cade would be humiliating. I don't know how they could live with themselves with the embarrassment of going 11-2, winning the league, and headed to the Orange Bowl.

I hope you’re wrong but I have trouble arguing against it giving what we’ve seen.
At the very least, the decision making around the QB this year has been bizarre.

Might be in a book Dabo writes after he retires.
Would be a fascinating read TBH, and not just for this.
His little blub a few weeks back about the '16 team wanting to fast forward to the end of the season vs. the '18 team that sort of embraced every game was really interesting. A chapter about all of his teams would be a great read.

Dabo already allowed a loss to our arch-rival, in a game that easily could have been won, blowing the 40-game home winning streak, an undefeated home season, the 7-game chicken streak, bragging rights, and all those goes with that . . . for the same reason you speculate it might happen against UNC. It's already been done. And you're right, it could happen w/ UNC, too.
And no, I'm not saying he purposely caused a loss or anything like that - nothing that crazy. I just mean he allowed that to transpire rather than allowing the possibility of Cade maybe providing the mojo to get over the hump vs. carolina.

I didn't take the original poster as saying that Dabo **wants** to lose, as in "let me sabotage us!" I took it more nuanced and realistic than that (b/c yeah, Dabo wanting us to lose is definitely not realistic). I took it to mean that he's too captive to his own judgment and is too insular.
If someone is making a mad decision, is in a bad relationship, etc. etc. you might refer to their stubbornness as being against their own interests . . . that they are, in a sense, "willing" to hurt their own interests in their stubbornness . . . but that's not the same as believing they consciously WANT things to turn out bad. It's more nuanced than that.

Cade comes in the Syracuse game. Doesn't look nervous at all. Does his job really well. We come back and win the game.
Next time we see him is backed up on our own goal line in South Bend down 14-0. We run on first down and then for some idiotic reason we call a naked bootleg and he has no help at all.
He had Ngata open if he could have lead him with the pass but the defender hit his arm and he couldn't follow through.
 
Had he been able to follow through with the throw he would have lead ngata to a completion but ngata did absolutely nothing to help him on that play.
Cade was put in a terrible position with no blockers backed up on his goal line and if not for the defender hitting his arm he gets out of it.
We haven't seen Cade in a meaningful situation since thanks to the utterly mind boggling play call.
