Warm weather camping.net

Jun 9, 2022, 11:58 AM

My trip next weekend around cootville looking like it going to be HOT.

Friday 94/72
Saturday 99

Is a small camping fan going to bring any relief in my child-sized tent?

We going to be somewhere around here:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Broad+River/@34.1629151,-81.1551728,271m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x88f8a4a349d55c61:0x4675777d213b7ee5!8m2!3d34.1656834!4d-81.1667136

So if Tiggity® or ryanadidas® or some other local wants to us up and offer nearly free room and board....I guess that would be cool.

Good luck and watch out for water moccasins

Jun 9, 2022, 12:01 PM

why don't you do the whole Lumbee River trip like 19B® ?

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't remember that one

Jun 9, 2022, 12:04 PM

I remember when they camped in the 90s and didn't pack any water and hiked through flatland pine trees.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was out in Francis Marion.

Camping in Cootlumbia in June-August?

Jun 9, 2022, 12:06 PM

J/K, as long as you are ON or IN moving water, you will survive. Rivers are nice because they're cooler. Hot spells and Lake Murray can feel like a bath tub, and you will sweat in the water.

Maybe blow some coin on one of these and let us know if it werks?

I don't think so. Rule of thumb on the water temp is to

Jun 9, 2022, 12:16 PM

take the low air temp for the day and divide by 2. Your bawls would never make it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

nah, that's gonna suck

Jun 9, 2022, 12:14 PM

hth.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We "camped" a coupla weeks ago in Givhans when it was

Jun 9, 2022, 12:27 PM

hot as bawls. "Camping" is in quotes since we had a bunch of people around us in nearby (earshot and visible) range and had electricity and running water. One guy brought a big standup fan that definitely helped, and we all had small fans for the tents that also helped. And a TV. We dragged a TV out there. And a couple of us got poison ivy, which sucked, so don't do that.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So the lil tent fan...must have?***

Jun 9, 2022, 12:39 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The level of help will be something > 0.

Jun 9, 2022, 12:43 PM

Might help a tiny bit, might help a lot. But better than if you didn't have it. WAY more important will be weather that holds up at night so you can keep the rain fly off. Putting that thing on is like adding a sweatshirt to the mix.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

especially if the sun's on your tent / rainfly

Jun 9, 2022, 1:45 PM

I woke up, hungover as ####, one memorial day wknd (near-ish Columbia, too) and i swear it was 100° in my tent by 8am

We have a river cabin a few miles up river from Givhans Ferr

Ferry. How is the river down there? I hear theres a bunch of sand bars and kayak traffic.

Coincidentally a coworker and I were talking about that very place an hour or so ago.

time, so not sure what to compare it to. Wide and shallow at the Givhans landing--probably 5' at the middle-ish. Boat traffic was almost exclusively jon boats, and mostly the same couple doing laps up and down the river for some reason. Saw a group of tubers put in and thought that would be fun, until we noticed they were still within 150' of us some 20-25 minutes later. That's some slow moving water right 'chere. I think it would have taken a couple hours to get to the bridge maybe a quarter mile down river.

You're going the wrong way to camp this time of year. Camping or doing anything in Columbia this time of year sounds miserable. That being said, I hope you have a good time with your fam.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know where that area is.

Jun 9, 2022, 12:58 PM

StubbornTiger and I camped down there one time. We met up with an old railroad tramp. StubbornTiger got head

I took the rest of the body.

Current lisp:

Tent
Packed tarp
Sleep pad
Sheets
Dry bag
Bug spray
Flashlight
Spare clothes
Medium Cooler
1 gallon water
10 bottles water
4 meals
Snacks
Rope
Dry box
2 batteries
Trolling motor
Motor mount

Tent
Packed tarp
Sleep pad
Sheets
- Just use the tarp.

Dry bag

Bug spray - dont be a wuss. just put it extra heavy on before you leave...
Flashlight - I think you meant fleshlight... and I think you can just use your hand for the weekend.
Spare clothes - uhhh no. dont be wuss.
Medium Cooler - uhhh no

1 gallon water - just bring one of those straws that filters river/lake water
10 bottles water

4 meals - catch and eat fish. no meals.
Snacks

Rope - okay, this is legit.

Dry box just put your stuff in that dry bag
2 batteries - yes
Trolling moto - yes
Motor mount - yes

might want to bring a fishing pole, some sort of lure/bait, and some way to start a fire. maybe a paddle also. Don't forget wallet, phone, and keys.
