I really hate this for the players, staff, and their families. They all did the same basic level of bowl preparation as we did, missed Christmas with the family, invested loads of energy, effort and time, and for nothing. Same with the UCLA players. We can hypothesize all day long about what the coaches or admins did or didn't do and their motivations, but I guarantee you that every single one of those players, and every single family member and staffer, wanted that game to be played. These are competitors who practice and prepare every day for 60 minutes of gametime. It really totally sucks for all of these kids to have their seasons end this way - especially for the seniors.

I know not one of them will be happy with the default trophy. It might look good in the record books years from now (if you don't reference the asterisk), but every player will know that they were robbed of an opportunity to do what they loved to do.

Let's hope that this is the last year that COVID will affect college sports as it has and that wiser, more reasonable heads will prevail moving forward.

But I doubt there will be any celebrating by the players - maybe jokingly, but nothing serious. It's almost an insult, given the circumstances.

I do like seeing DD being screwed - I've always thought he was a jerk - but not so much for all the kids on the team.
