He said a bunch of stuff that blew up in his face and just made him look like an idiot. Bigger issue is he allegedly worked with the Saudi golf league and Greg Norman to draft the new tours operating agreement. Would be akin to someone going to their direct competitor and conspiring against their own bosses business while still being employed by them. Most employers don't take too kindly to that.

People in his position. You spend a career in a league that is rewarding and you reach the peak. Then you realize everything you've worked for is rigged and you were essentially used. So you end up doing something stupid and are punished. Happens all the time.
You got to love the game more than the fame. If you love the game you're content with being used. Start doing it for the fame or the money and you get burned.

Phil got a big wad of cash from the Saudis, and was gonna secretly recruit the top players away from the PGA Tour to join this new golf tour formed by the Towel Heads. Basically, trying to gut the PGA and start up a new tour. Cause, you know, he's been screwed by the PGA... he's only halfway to being a billionaire, and The Man is holding him down...
That would be like, say Aaron Rogers is secretly plotting with China to start a new football league. He's recruiting all of the top NFL stars on the down low to join him, and they will sucker-punch the NFL and all walk away and join this new Chinese football league. Cause, you know, they're getting screwed by the NFL... Rogers will only make $150 million the next 3 years. Damm near like being a slave on a plantation...
