Project Management Training

Feb 7, 2017, 11:40 AM

So my boss wants me to go take some Construction Project Management Training. Last year, we sent two Assistant Project Managers to Austin for CMAA Training. This sounds like it could be doable, but not terrible. Well, he sent me this link for something to take:

http://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/continuing_education/professional_education_and_certificate_programs/project_management/project_management_certificate/index.php

How do I explain to him that I will not go to Columbia to take a class at USC in Project Management. Also, this is for PMP training, not construction project management, right? This #### is a Clemson grad and he is suggesting I go to this (assuming he wants to save money and keep it local).

DO I burn his office down, poop on his desk, r8pe and pillage? Suggestions?

He shot down my training in Honolulu in August.

focused, self led in my own time, save the employer some money...I'll make sure I share this with others.

It appears to fulfill the classroom requirement.

"Our program provides the 35 hours of training required to take the PMP® certification exam. "

The other pre-reqs to take the exam are:

Prerequisites
Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent)
7,500 hours leading and directing projects
35 hours of project management education
OR

Four-year degree
4,500 hours leading and directing projects
35 hours of project management education

About 10% of applications are chosen for audit to prove you actually have the necessary hours of project mgt you say you do.

And you'll need to earn an additional 60 PDU's over the next

3 years to keep it current.

but the PMP certification has nothing to do with Constructio

Feb 7, 2017, 1:50 PM

n, correct? There is literally NO REASON i should get this as I am a Construction Project Manager. My boss is stupid and crazy.

I disagree.

Because of the nature of waterfall PM, it's geared more towards construction projects than many other PM methodologies. Also, a large part of the PMP is financial based (cost and schedule varainces and indexes (indices)?)

I know several high level PM's with a PMP

but a license is better.
