How long has Swinney been on vacation?

Jun 24, 2015, 9:23 AM

He was arrested on June 6. I'm sure Swinney heard about it the next day.

Re: How long has Swinney been on vacation?

Jun 26, 2015, 7:38 PM

Who knows. I have heard that he was arrested a couple years ago for possession of Marijuanna while he was driving through Franklin County Ga. Wonder if Dabo knew about that. One of the L.E. personnel involved told me that he said many times something to the nature of I hope the coaches dont find out. (I was not there, so I cant say for a fact it happened, just what I have heard)

When I was in school, I never met a student

Jun 24, 2015, 9:26 AM

as far as I know, that had or did Cocaine; much less an athlete. Honestly, none of my friends could have afforded it anyways. We were scrapping pennies to decide if we should have The Beast or Keystone.

Did you?

I was in college from 2003-2008. Cocaine is everywhere. It is almost as common if not as common as weed now.

As a student from 2005-2009, can also confirm this.

Well, that's depressing

Jun 25, 2015, 7:09 AM

Maybe I was just sheltered as a student (1991-95), I dunno. I saw a lot (a LOT) of drunk kids but I don't recall seeing any illegal drugs, even weed. Then again I didn't go to many parties.

Dang man, u must not have got out much. Weed is everywhere in colleges, unfortunately. Coke is pretty common also, as it goes along with the party scene.

And half the stuff college kids think is Coke is actually Meth. It is amazing how many drug arrests I have made and the person did not have the drug they thought they had. Considering that most Coke and Meth has been stepped on 85% by the time it gets to the street dealer, it lookes and tastes pretty much the same. Both taste like cut. Both will numb your tongue.

Lot cheaper than weed. $900 an ounce un-stepped on. That can be cut to 7 oz. For the average party user (not a chronic) that is enough to last a year and a half.

Re: The officer also said he failed to use his turn signal

Jun 25, 2015, 5:07 PM [ in reply to Re: The officer also said he failed to use his turn signal ]

It's hysterical how many of these comments are defending a guy who drove drunk (in possession of cocaine to boot). Let's talk about how the cop made up the "glazed look" statement and wrongfully pulled him over and how rigged the field sobriety test is. The fact is that cop is protecting your family, your kids and you from stupid drunk drivers on the road. Lakip made a terrible decision and should pay for it, just like anyone else. The tendency for people to jump on the defense of the (obviously) guilty is insane to me. If this was a story about Jameis Winston I bet the tone would be different here.

Oh, did I say hysterical? I meant depressing.

or that Lakip is innocent or "framed." I just find it funny what they put in to justify following him. They followed him because he's a college student turning out of a place with college bars. I also notice that they've changed from "odor of alcohol" to "odor of alcoholic drinks." Alcohol doesn't have an odor. The beer does.

I have a friend who is a defense attorney and he swears that if you get pulled for DUI, don't take a field sobriety test. They already have you under suspicion, you are just providing them evidence. An attorney can cast doubt on suspicion, but they can't refute facts like failing a test.

Jun 24, 2015, 12:57 PM [ in reply to I'm not saying the stop was wrong ]

the field sobriety test. It was designed by ex-police so that it's 100% objective. There is no subjective pass or fail line such as a 70% or C or F. If the officer already thinks you are drunk enough to give you the test, no matter how good you do, any tiny little imperfection and he will say you failed. So, might as well just refuse it. All you're doing is giving the police more evidence against you. Even sober, most people cannot be perfect on the field sobriety test, and on the camera look to be wobbly and unsteady on their feet.

I once did one of those safe driving courses with the police, where you drink controlled amounts and are tested over and over to see at what point you fail and then are reviewed on video. Truth be told, there was little difference in how people performed until seriously high BAC levels are reached.

Basically the FST is a complete farce and it was invented to be a complete farce so that police could justify increased number of arrests.

you can smell the drink. And no drink is 100% alcohol. You smell like beer. You smell like vodka/tequila/puke.

I was just making a general comment on the way that officers write that out now. The common line was "smells of alcohol." Now its "alcoholic beverage." I guess the DUI attorney's got enough folks off for that technicality.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Nope. You can't smell the alcohol

Jun 25, 2015, 4:18 AM

I assume you are referring to ethanol, which absolutely has an odor. You might not have 100% (it is possible but unlikely since it equilibrates in the atmosphere to about 97 or 98%) but you can get pretty darn close with everclear (95%) and I don't know it you've ever smelled everclear but it does have an odor. You can smell alcohol on people's breaths it's not just the other stuff.

And for the idiot acting like cocaine is safe because it doesn't kill as many people as alcohol, how many people do cocaine compared to how many people drink?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FB Update: Details on Lakip's arrest

Jun 24, 2015, 10:59 AM

Although I don't condone driving drunk or impaired, there are several odd observations in this police report and story.

My first question, is this a Clemson City Police Officer or the Universtiy Police? Next, why did he take him to the University Police Department for the blood alcohol assessment since the stop and arrest happened off campus?

I know these officers are well trained, but i highly doubt that he can observe at 0139 hours in the morning that "the driver had a fixed blank glassy glaze about his face". He may have had the appearance of someone who was drunk but I doubt he could determine the state of his face/look from that distance. I also found it interesting that he asked if he had any injuries as Lakip was exiting the car. Odd.

I also don't blame Ammon for not submitting to any BAC testing. This is self-incrimination and/or being forced to witness against himself. The 5th amendment prohibits this and it is your right to refuse.

I really do have a problem with this young man being absolutely STUPID. Why do you put yourself in this situation?
The time, place, alcohol and drugs---really??? We expect you to be smarter than this and to represent yourself, your family, your university and your teammates better than this.

We have 4 other punters/kickers on this team that I am aware of and you might have just taken yourself out of the equation. And, we sure could use your scholarship to offer another player the opportunity to compete!!
Dabo's decision is going to be an interesting one, for sure.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

> He didn't take the urine or blood test which is almost a guarantee he will not get a DUI.

Failing a field sobriety test and smelling of alcohol is pretty damning evidence, regardless of whether they can assign him an exact BAC%.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not true

Jun 24, 2015, 6:36 PM [ in reply to Re: FB Update: Details on Lakip's arrest ]

The prosecutor can still take the case to a jury and show them the recording of the field sobriety tests. Then it's up to the jury to decide if you look too drunk to drive.

But, there are many ways that a lawyer can attack the video recording of the field sobriety tests and reading of Miranda rights. If the video gets thrown out then the prosecutor has no case.

The DUI charge is for driving an AUDIO and he does not own an AUDIO so you can clearly throw out that charge and the "alleged" cocaine was documented as in a "lip balm" container found in said "AUDIO" vehicle that which my client does not possess nor has ever driven.

paperwork so they can legitimize iffy traffic stops...."As I watched the vehicle pass by I noticed that the driver had a fixed blank glassy glaze about his face and had the appearance of someone who may be under the influence."

Who the heck talks like that? "A fixed blank glassy glaze".... yea right. I bet if you go and read all of his paperwork for traffic stops in that area around that time, they all say the same thing. It's like the standard line "he had glassy eyes" or "I smelled alcohol" or "I smelled pot" (which has now been proven false, studies show over 100 different legal chemicals have the same odor). Its just something they are taught to say so that they seem to have reasonable and articulable suspicion.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: This where you can tell cops are trained in how to fill out

I bet if you put a black, red, and blue marks down Lakip's face and have him drive by the cop in his same location at the same time at night, and he wouldn't recognize any marks. But he witnessed a fixed blank glassy glaze about his face and had the appearance of someone who may be under the influence. He created a reason to make the stop before Lakip or who ever came down that road, he was going to make a stop, no doubt about it, I think that he should have been tested for drugs or alcohol with his statement. That cop should be fired if that was he true statement, bc it is clearly a wild made up story. To me, it's a illegal stop, search and seizure!!!

What probable cause did they have to perform a search of

Jun 24, 2015, 1:01 PM

his vehicle? At the time they searched it, he was already in handcuffs and in the back of the police car. They cant claim they had to search it for weapons or as a precaution for their safety. The suspect was already in custody locked in a police cruiser and had no chance in heck at getting to anything within the vehicle. At that point they clearly were on a fishing expedition looking for anything else they could charge him with. If they wanted to search his vehicle, they should have had to apply for a warrant from a magistrate and say what their probable cause was for wanting to search his private property.

If the car is going to be towed, the officer is required to do an inventory search of the care and write down what was in the car. That search can only been done once the person is arrested. In a DUI arrests, there is probable cause to search the vehicle to look for open containers of alcohol. No warrant is necessary for these type of searches. And I think any car can be searched if an arrest is made and the person has been in the car before the arrest.

The cops can not search through you car and write nothing down unless you give them permission, or they have a search warrant.

Or they just asked him if they could search it and he said

The original stop was based on this?!?!

Jun 24, 2015, 2:53 PM

"As I watched the vehicle pass by I noticed that the driver had a fixed blank glassy glaze about his face and had the appearance of someone who may be under the influence."

How did you see that at night? That statement has to be attacked by a lawyer.

The Lakip apologists in this thread are disgusting

Jun 24, 2015, 4:28 PM

Dude knowingly got behind the wheel intoxicated, endangering the lives of other students (some of which are family members of Tigernet forum posters), and had cocaine on him.

How can you possibly be blaming the police for this? I applaud campus police for doing their job, which is to make the roads safer for everyone that uses them.

Agree totally. Most of the posters have never spent time in the hospital after meeting on the street with someone who thought their right to drive hammered superceded your right to stay healthy and get home alive. Let them or one of their family members suffer this type of joy and the song will change.

I'd be much more impressed if they found the rock.***
