How many of you who are critical of Trapp declaring for the

Mar 31, 2021, 2:53 PM

NBA Draft and entering the transfer portal even realize that he was a senior this past season?

I am shocked to read these comments here about him "jumping ship" and questioning his true loyalty to Clemson and Coach Brownell.

Again, he's a SENIOR. He will have a Clemson degree. The only reason he has an option to play next year, should he choose to accept it, is if he wants a fifth year that all athletes who were eligible this past season have the option of taking.

Only on TigerNet, where we have our own pandemic of unreasonable and misinformed basketball fans, do we have a player and his coach being criticized for doing what any reasonable person in his situation would do.

I really hope my sarcasm meter is in need of repair, and all of these posts freaking out about Trapp "jumping ship" are satire.

Totally agree. Nothing wrong with what he’s doing. He is not abandoning his team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So than why

Mar 31, 2021, 3:01 PM

doesn't he just play his "bonus" season at Clemson where they could use any warm body they can get right now? So quick to defend, but it's evident he doesn't want to play for Brownell, this has got nothing to do with being critical of the player from my view, but he's the one saying what he said and opting for greener pastures which he obviously doesn't believe is within the Clemson Basketball program right now.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: So than why

Mar 31, 2021, 3:05 PM

He’s used his 4 years of eligibility. Now he has an option for a “free year”. Could it be he’s interested in grad school at another school? I have no idea but remember these kids are still students.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: So than why

Mar 31, 2021, 3:07 PM

Do you honestly think that any of the sports players who transfer for a grad degree care about the degree?

with one year remaining? Heck Trevor could have had two more years. The young man has a opportunity only to make a lot of money at the next level. Would you have stayed at Clemson?

Sure he does. There’s more professional ball than just the NBA.

He doesn't shoot well enough to play in the NBA IMO...

I suspect he'll be back for another season.

If he doesn't make it to the NBA it sounds to me..

Mar 31, 2021, 3:05 PM

that entering the transfer portal sets him up to play for another college team, not Clemson. Of course he could change his mind, but seems like he is setting the stage to play elsewhere. If he plays college ball next year, I think it should be at Clemson.

Bottom line is we just aren't that set up either way. Sure he can go, but the program as of now is in shyart shape. That's today though. We may build it up next week with transfers. That will work. We are a mess today though.

That’s irrelevant. We’re not talking about whether or not we are sticking to a plan. We are talking about an individual player’s decision and preference not to come back even though he has the choice to do so, and we all clearly know he is not on his way to an NBA career.

Trapp is doing what any intelligent college basketball player

Mar 31, 2021, 8:10 PM

in 2021 would do. He is keeping all of his options on the table while he figures it out.

It’s amazing that anyone who is a true Clemson basketball fan would try to spin this as a negative. Don’t worry though, I don’t think you are a fan.

Also, has it occurred to you that he might not have the option to return to Clemson and be guaranteed his starting role?

The more "talent" the sooner a player opts for the NBA.

Judge can not face reality with Brownell for some reason We have to believe we can win it all and that can not be done with Brad I’m tired of looking at us shoot a 3 and then there are 4 of the other team rebounding and we have no one in sight Cliff Ellis had a great high low inside game but I’ve never seen an inside game with Brad Basketball always has and always will be won or lost as football in the trenches inside with physical play

Do you seriously not realize that there are a million other factors to consider with trapp potentially transferring?

He has defended brownell a lot. If he doesn’t go overseas, he has the chance to play a year of basketball anywhere in the country.

Also not to mention that his minutes might decline next year. We have 3 guards coming back (as of now) that are significantly better offensively than he is.

Nobody thought he was coming back next year. This is fake outrage to blame on brownell. Grow up.

Mar 31, 2021, 9:52 PM

Judge, I get what you are trying to say but your arguement is flawed. Trapp is not leaving for millions of dollars, he is leaving for UNCG (or the like, just using Newman's school). Nobody blames Trevor for leaving early because he is leaving for major cash, not another school. I'm not saying you are wrong but you are making the wrong arguement. You should be sticking to that he may be wanting to go to a school that specializes in what he is wanting to get another degree in. Fallacies only weaken an arguement. Stick to what's actually relevant and people may take you a bit more seriously.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You’re missing the point.

Mar 31, 2021, 10:04 PM

The guy/gal above was portraying anyone who leaves the basketball team with eligibility left, regardless of the reason, as abandoning the team.

To point out how ridiculous that is, I asked about football players leaving early. The reason why doesn’t matter in the case of his/her blanket statement.

In case you haven’t noticed, the entire argument about Trapp is ridiculous, and intended solely to criticize the program. Many of these people acting like Trapp leaving is a huge loss were the same ones who bashed him for the last four years.

Mar 31, 2021, 10:10 PM

I agree with the last part about people being critical of Trapp. However, he showed some b#$#z, excuse me..."resolve", in the tournament and was obviously a leader, even if not overly talented. Just suggesting that you stick to the right argument, even if others don't. In another post, you argued back and forth forever before you even realized he had also entered the portal.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I knew he entered the portal.

Mar 31, 2021, 10:17 PM

To me, it doesn’t matter whether we are talking about declaring for the draft, entering the portal, or going overseas to play basketball. He has done his four years, will have a Clemson degree, and is in no way “bailing on the team” to go elsewhere.

I appreciate all that he has done for Clemson and wish him the best regardless of what he decides.

Neither Trevor not Trapp is leaving Clemson early. They are both leaving as graduates. While it is not the norm, people can finish in 3 years, especially when they have been around for a few summer sessions.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We should not be critical of Trapp for testing the waters.

Mar 31, 2021, 5:51 PM

He has not signed with an agent, so he could in theory come back if not selected in the draft. (I don't think he will be.)

Re: How many of you who are critical of Trapp declaring for the

Mar 31, 2021, 7:58 PM

JK,

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you. However, I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Trapp’s decision is not necessarily and indictment on Clemson’s BB program, as some have suggested. On the other hand, his decision to leave because he is a SENIOR, as you suggested, does not totally hold water either.

Trapp is most likely going to play another year of college basketball at another school besides Clemson. It’s a fair question to ask why not Clemson for his final year? With COVID, he could’ve easily declared for the draft without an agent and returned to Clemson for a final year. He chose to go elsewhere and I’m curious as to why.

Re: How many of you who are critical of Trapp declaring for the

Mar 31, 2021, 8:03 PM

Mar 31, 2021, 10:08 PM

None of our seniors are. Most guys play their four years, get a degree, and are ready to move on.

Second, I have no problem with him entering the transfer portal or declaring for the draft. Neither are binding. He could end up returning to Clemson, but I doubt it.

Third, have you considered the fact that he might not fit into Clemson’s plans for next year?

Don't know why he is declaring. He has no shot at the NBA. Although I have no issue if he wants to explore it. His best option would be to come back and get better and maybe play in Europe. That option may be limited this upcoming year with Covid and the issues in Europe.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure what all the commotion is about

Apr 2, 2021, 10:42 PM

if there is one area of the team that looks solid next year it is the backcourt with Dawes, Honor, Hemenway and Hunter returning. Add in the freshman PG from Columbia and a likely transfer in and we are pretty set there.

Clyde was a solid contributor for us but always had limitations. He battled for 4 years and has a degree. He's leaving on good terms with the coaches, team and program as a whole. It's quite likely he sees his role diminished here and would like to play a fifth year some place he could log starters minutes. I've always thought he was more of a good SoCon level player. And by good I mean 13-15 pts a game good. Something he'd never reach in the ACC.

Good luck to him and thanks for 4 years of hard work, being a good student and teammate, and contributing solid minutes on two NCAA tourney teams
