Here's why you fire Brad Brownell.....

NCAA Tourney seeds #1 - #6: record of 0 and 8 (of those losses only 2 were at Home)
NCAA Tourney seeds #7 - #16: record of 4 and 4 (losses by 1, 1, 6, and 6, only 1 at Home)
non NCAA Tourney teams: record of 13 - 3
you clowns make me laugh -
does anyone even care about facts and reality anymore.....

someone....
Clemson hasn't moved from being a bubble team since Barnes' later years.
Trouble is, we've been on the wrong side of the bubble more than not lately.
Firing a Coach for that hardly seems appropriate at a school that's
never won an ACCT,
or never won in Chapel Hill,
or didn't win a NCAAT game under OP,
etc. ad nauseum.
Face it - you guys just want some blood to make yourselves feel better...

"Clemson hasn't moved from being a bubble team since Barnes later years"-- did you miss the OP years? We aren't talking about NCAAT wins here-- we're talking about expecting to be there.
BB has an easier SOS than both Barnes and OP
BB has a lower winning % than both Barnes and OP
those are the facts

just on the right side of the bubble, AND
who could not win a NCAA game.
Brownell has coached in a much more difficult ACC
yet has a better ACC record than Purnell
AND won an NCAA game.
Does BB need to make the tourney? Yes....
but I think the record this year is obvious -
they won the games they were supposed to win but missed great chances at doing better.
The team was not as accomplished as the pre-season fanfare
because it could not play defense and could not win the tight game.
BB is a Coach who gave them the chance to do both....
so yeah, fire the guy... show us how tough you are....

False. We finished in the AP Top 25 for both 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. We also were ranked or received votes in every poll those seasons.

You fail to mention the fact that OP left huge holes in the roster
Mar 12, 2017, 8:46 PM

due to poor recruiting. There were also multiple players on OP's last team who were planning on transferring if OP returned.
It's not nearly as simple as "Brownell inherited three straight NCAA teams."

Purnell sold us out for two solid years
because of when he left in the recruiting cycle,
how he left (leaving poor relationships with the recruits he had signed), and
the thin freshman/sophomore classes he left behind.
BB had one decently talented team and then a rebuilding program...

Cool stat doesnt change the fact that he finished 3rd 5th and 5th in those years. Just because some teams had up and down years doesnt mean we were the 3rd best team in the ACC...
We were ONE of those 3 but the other two we were not.

sooner rather than later; I'd like actually win an AACT, win at Chapel Hill, and win some NCAA tourney games. That means that if our current coach is not clearly moving us in that direction, or hasn't done so in 7 years, then it doesn't make sense to keep him for another year or two.
For you, they seem to be reasons to be content with where we are now, or maybe not to expect anything better than we have been historically.
We clearly disagree on that.

and there's obviously a lot of reasons why it's a tough job and why it's tough to win but at some point....at some point in the near future you either have to win or a change will be made...see it all the time with new sales reps....at a certain point the excuses and time runs out and you have to win or go do something else.

and are barely out of the NCAA tournament. 1 or 2 more wins, and we are IN.
That's not awful.
You need to adjust your expectations. We play in BY FAR the BEST conference in country. 9 teams got in. #10 is Syracuse, a historically great team. And we ended up just shy of them.
I want Clemson to go to the NCAA tournament too. AND I believe it can and will happen soon. If we get rid of Brownell now, I believe we will NOT make the tournament the next 3 years.

That will be the telltale. If the buyout decreases any then you know changes may be on the way. Until then, they aren't willing to spend the 3 or 3.5 Million on a sport that really doesn't get much support from students or long distant fans.

Why is it only in the coaching profession that results and getting better each year doesnt matter? In any other job you don't last 7 years if you don't get better on the job. Please show me reasons to believe that next year will be any better. JB your best player is gone. The freshmen on the team are bench warmers not big contributors. You have a head case in Grantham. The incoming class of freshmen are the best you have signed but they are not impact players. You have made one NCAA tournament and one NIT tournament. Your more highly recruited players have got worse. You play in a tough conference. Unless there is surprise ,Brownell will be back. Another year like this past one and Drad better get ready to feel the heat for keeping him.

There is one big difference with Dabo and Brownell. I remember 2010. Napier was never ready to be an oc. The university administration finally got behind football again in a big way. They gave Dabo the money to go out and hire a quality offensive coordinator. The rest is history. The AARC was defanged. We now treat football as the biggest priority on campus. I wish they felt the same way about basketball.

How long ? I don't think the fans will put up with another long extension and a huge buyout. Brownell has made 1 NCAA tournament in seven years. That's a bad record. In your opinion how many more years do you give him? Do you lower the buyout? Are there strict standards that Brownell must meet to keep his job?

It's obvious we have another fractured fanbase over the status of a coach. First Bowden then Leggett now Brownell. It comes down to how we see the basketball program. Can you say 1 NCAA berth in seven years is a good job? Is mediocrity okay for basketball but not for football or baseball? It will take money and more financial support by the administration to get and keep the right coach. Clemson basketball can be great .

We could become an ACC bottom dweller like we were under Shyatt. Or we could get in trouble for NCAA violations like we did with Locke or Ellis. Or we could have a poor team GPA like we did with Purnell.
Brownell needs to get over the hump in terms of winning more close games, but let's not discount the other things he does really well. They are important too.

I wonder do you guys actually watch the games. Brownell has done an outstanding job with this team. We were 6 points from making the tournament. 6 POINTS. We would have maybe beat DOOK(who won the ACC championship) the other night if Elijah makes a point blank layup. Its not Brownell's job to make the ####### Free throws and layups for the players. I went to Senior night two Saturdays ago against BC and Littlejohn was a generous 2/3rds full. On Senior Night the last game at home for BLOSS who is one of the most decorated college bball players of all time at Clemson.I dont know who would be encouraged to win for a fanbase who can't show up for a ####### senior night when there fans would rather be watching some ######## spring practice drills for the football team. Maybe if people showed up in half the force and had half the enthusiasm as they do for football we wouldnt have lost some of those home-games.All of you are clearly just too spoiled about the RECENT success of the football team. If your asking for Brownell to be fired your an imbecile and no nothing about the game of basketball.

Of course we expect success in every sport. It's not just football that's doing well at Clemson. Baseball is doing great because we changed to a better coach. You say we won't support basketball as fans? Remember under Barnes students camping out for ticket? Remember the same and more when OP was head basketball coach? Those years the basketball program was more nationally recognized than football. Brownells teams and his style just aren't an exciting brand to watch. OPs teams would kill a Brownell coached team. We will support an exciting product. It's not being a nice guy or graduation rates. It's about winning. Football will always be king at Clemson. It's a better sport. There is no reason that the basketball coaches cannot use the huge success of this years football team to attract top recruits. Dabo could teach Brownell how to be a dynamic recruiter.
