SIAP - Oklahoma recruit and NIL

Jan 2, 2022, 8:22 AM

Thought an interesting read on a kids perspective, Texas recruiting and Brent Venables message. Also curious why we couldn't generate any interest in Kobie coming here.

Yeah, but it's kinda already been there in a smaller way. UGA bagmen are real. We don't want kids like that. I think Wes and Dabo's message resonates but as others have said, we do need to be prepared for it. Sadly it is part of recruiting. I'm confident Dabo will come up with the correct balance.

We got real competition with Oklahoma now, and to a lesser extent, UVA. Is our Fla recruiting suffering? Can we get enough Kobies that will come play for Clemson that have 5* talent too?

Paying players, he has said it before…..it feels like we are behind on the NIL situation with this recruiting class…..no other team with our recent success is rated as low as we are in recruiting

I think that you are reading too much into NIL. A lot of the attraction of Clemson is the actual atmosphere IN Clemson and around the team. This class is the one that has been most impacted with their visits because of COVID.

When you combine that with a down year, both coordinators leaving, and a new recruiting coordinator adjusting to the position, you have a down year recruiting. We have some adjustments to make, but our recruiting this year certainly was not all because of NIL.

Sorry but most 18 year old kids want money not an atmosphere

I love everything about Clemson but let’s be real, money talks. I agree covid has impacted us, it’s just a few years ago we were burning up the recruiting trail.

Did you read the article and what this Kobie kid said? As well as Dabo's (Venables) message to him was... And how that resonates.

If a kid is all about the money, we ain't getting him to Clemson. Now, if Dabo comes across a kid that needs money for his parents etc, I'm sure there will be something there. Short game vs long game.

DJ was successful with NIL despite not being a national name. Money is important to everyone but Clemson is a bigger name than 90% of the schools. Winning brings in National money which will trump local money, despite what Texas is selling. The NIL ranks way on down the list for the lack of recruiting success this year.

Spot on.... Took away a lot of tools in Dabo's toolbox. That said, the other tool he's got to put into his box is portal. New age watching the bowls and the amount of kids starring are transfers.

Texas has an Austin problem. They have bagmen with bottomless pockets, but a local city culture full of hipster, vegan, soy-drinker, west coast expats that think football is barbaric. TAMU is going to win the Texas State NIL wars.

Money is the only thing Texas can sell. They can’t sell culture or a winning program.
