Sometimes going home is not a good idea

Dec 6, 2021, 7:44 AM

BV has made a mistake.

He was making good money, legendary status, kids were where he was working.

Then he throws it all away for more money and more headaches by now taking over the fresh dumpster fire of OK.

If he can revert the sinking ship, he then gets the privilege of playing bama in the SEC.

Let's face it. BV is an amazing DC. I don't see how his personality gels with being the CEO which is what Head coaches are these days.

If he calls his own defense he may have a chance, but why do that on top of all of the headaches of being a HC when he could have done that at clemson.

I just love this assumption that if you're good at one thing

Dec 6, 2021, 7:58 AM

it's assumed you would be good at another thing. Just because you're a good family doctor doesn't mean you'd be a good heart surgeon. And if you're a good heart surgeon that doesn't mean you'd be an excellent hospital administrator.

Just because you have good grades in school doesn't mean you will succeed in the real world, or even succeed in a field tied to your major. There are all these assumptions that just happen that shouldn't. I mean we had an excellent WR coach and real estate salesman become a better head coach than the best OC or DC in college football at the time ever became.

I am going to call it here. BV was our defense, and I predict not a stellar record at Oklahoma. Just a hunch. I didn't know at the time, but Jeff Scott was our offense and he's laid an egg to date at USF. Can't blame him really though. He's been at Clemson through multiple national championships, and he's peaked as a DC, and probably the best in the business really. When you get there though, and someone takes a career step up, they tend to underachieve. Just the trend, and I predict this will be no different.

I am old enough to remember

Dec 6, 2021, 9:09 AM

Last week when you said he wasn't leaving. Maybe you should stick to FB Coaching and less to FB Guessing.

Definately thought he wouldn't leave due to the factors

Dec 6, 2021, 9:12 AM

I stated above.

Which means, I think he's making a mistake

How can it be a mistake? even if he fails, he'll be richer

Dec 6, 2021, 9:32 AM

and still be able to get any DC job he wants.

Come on - that's thinking more than one move ahead.

It means you were wrong.

I guess we'll find out. But even if being a head coach

Dec 6, 2021, 9:09 AM

doesn't work out for him he'll be an attractive hire as DC again.

I do think this was one of very few opportunities that he would have taken.

2 words:

Generational money.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're correct, but if you want to say it in casual

Dec 6, 2021, 9:11 AM

conversation while swirling your brandy snifter, palm up, you have to say "generational wealth".

Good point. There may be an even more subtle way of saying

Dec 6, 2021, 9:13 AM

it. Something like "upward trend in passive receivables".

try "future genetic ascension" .***

Dumpster fire at OU?

Dec 6, 2021, 9:35 AM

I'll have what this guy is smoking please.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How is he throwing any of that away?

Dec 6, 2021, 10:02 AM

"Making good money" - still is

"legendary status" - not sure what this means, but he's still regarded in just as high regard today as he was yesterday

"kids were where he was working" - seems like his sons could transfer if they wanted to
