Lawnmower recs

Apr 14, 2022, 7:27 PM

So my guy got a big raise at his day job so he’s getting out of the lawn care side gig.

I’m thinking I could use the exercise of walking but not pushing - anybody got one of these? How do you like it?

See, recs means “I’m open to any and all options…

What you really meant was “I have 99.999995% decided to buy the Ego mower—-can one or two people validate my purchase decision?”

Prickly fashion. This approach is fine with lawnmowers. People who pull this with car advice requests though deserve a public flogging.

When my Snapper riding mower finally died after 20+ years, I

Apr 14, 2022, 8:50 PM

got a Honda push mower with bagger. (For the exercise). This was about 5 years ago, and it was on sale at Home Depot for $399 as I recall. I'm sure they're a good bit more now. This thing is a beast. Starts on the first pull every spring and I've done nothing to it maintenance wise. Which reminds me, I need to have a tuneup & oil change done.

I looked at Snapper and Honda but

Apr 14, 2022, 8:55 PM

I never liked carrying a gas can in my car (I know, get a truck you puss) so I thought I’d give this fancy thing a try.

I should be on the plus side compared to what I was paying Brandon by the end of this summer so if it lasts 2 years I’m ahead of the game.

I’ve had 2 snapper self propelled over the last 35 years, still have latest for my lower rough yard. Recently bought a Honda for my Celebration bermuda which I cut low. Great mower!

Honda motor is a must

Apr 15, 2022, 8:28 AM [ in reply to When my Snapper riding mower finally died after 20+ years, I ]

I bought a Snapper self-propelled push mower with a Honda motor about 5 years ago. LOVE IT.

You're right - beast. Any 5-yr old mower that starts on first pull after sitting for 3-4 months is gold. GOLD, Jerry. Honda small engines are the unparalleled best, well worth the extra cost.

I haven't dove into the electric mower pool yet, probably will take me a few more years before I go there.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's the mower I have, with the Honda engine

Apr 15, 2022, 10:35 AM [ in reply to When my Snapper riding mower finally died after 20+ years, I ]

(no Briggs & Stratton Engines for me).

That said, it worked great the last time I started it, in 2016.

how thick / tall the grass is.

I was worried about that

Apr 14, 2022, 9:30 PM

The old walk behind I had took about 45 minutes for front and back combined so hopefully this can handle it

Apr 14, 2022, 9:43 PM

So far I love it. Just need the blower to rid myself of gas and oil.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The blower works well.

Apr 15, 2022, 8:07 AM

Of course not as strong as the backpack jet blowers that are all the rage in my neighborhood, but works just fine and not nearly as noisy. I’m happy with it.

I’ve got the weed whacker and mower as well, only complaint is I wish I had gotten the wider mower. But it all works great imo.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I picked up the string trimmer with edging attachment

Apr 15, 2022, 8:17 AM

At a bargain store. Brand new never used for $60. The edger attachment is $80 new, so I figured it was worth a gamble. Works perfectly. Didn't come with a battery, but I have 2 and I'll get another when I buy the blower.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My son has one, works well cutting grass and bagging it

Apr 14, 2022, 10:14 PM

But it doesn’t vacuum up anything heavier than grass very well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mine bagged wet leaves as well or better than my Honda did

Apr 14, 2022, 10:24 PM

It is the new 2022 version so they may have fixed a few things.
