You are in charge -what do you do?

Jun 30, 2022, 9:25 PM

You are the Commissoner of the ACC what do you do to keep up with the SEC and Big 10?
I think you have to find a way to get ND and Penn state to join. Not sure how but something has to happen to keep this conference viable. I really like the way things used to be but things are changing and the ACC needs to adjust. Thoughts?

I just don't see why Penn State would walk away from what

Jun 30, 2022, 9:30 PM

they have.

If news reports are right newnan®, how does Penn State jump to a $28-35M per season ACC Football payout when USC and UCLA are reported to move the B1G to a $100M per season payout per school? Notre Dame has been earning big football jack for years. I do not know if Notre Dame reports how much per season as they are a private school and under no public mandate to do so.

Anyway, as ACC commissioner, it starts with getting out of crappy ESPN/ACC contract. And for proactive and desired ACC schools, it starts with investigating SEC and B1G interest ... not necessarily parallel tracks.

I wouldn't leave either if I was Penn state unless I could make more money. If they join with ND then they would help create a great TV contract. It would also put ND and Penn State in a conference that values academics.

Agree with you

Academics matter. And they're currently being given short change.

Notre Dame ain't coming, and Penn State would have to be

Jun 30, 2022, 9:34 PM

17 kinds of stupid to leave the BIG for the ACC. I think the die is cast, and the ACC was the one left without a chair when the music stopped.

We could easily wind up ahead of the Big 12, or the remnants of the PAC 12. But, that would still make us the third wheel on a BIG SEC two wheel bicycle. And, to save themselves, the PAC ?? and the Big 12 will almost certainly have to combine in some form to remain relevant. And when / if THAT happens, the ACC will find itself a permanent 4th in a field of 4. And if that happens, as I said in a reply to another post, our ONLY narrow path to the Playoffs would be to absolutely run the table each year. Chances would be pretty slim of a one loss ACC Champion getting in with TWO Super Conferences, AND a HUGE by volume Big Pac of whatever.

You're forgetting that the CFP will soon be going to

Jun 30, 2022, 10:09 PM

at least eight, and probably more, teams in the playoff! And supposedly, the ND contract with the ACC, which I think runs through 2035, says if they join a conference in football, it has to be the ACC.

I think Notre Dame is being very shortsighted if they continue to be an independent in football. How did 2020 not work out pretty well for them?

You make some good points but by then the playoffs will be expanded to 12 teams so we will stand a good chance of getting in.

Why in the world would Penn State leave the Big10?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Think you make some phones calls to the following group of schools

Jun 30, 2022, 9:39 PM

WV, Cincy, UCF, & ND. Get at least 2 of them on board to start expanding. If the cards are played right, the ACC could establish themselves as an East coast superconference.

With the added teams comes reworking the TV deal. Don't give the whole kit & kaboodle to ESPN. You have CBS, could fold in NBC as an option if ND is brought on board, etc...but not being completely tied to ESPN would be very beneficial since they're hitched to the SEC wagon & everyone else is 2nd class citizens

big10 will come after ND'they will bolt for the $.***

You would have to try for Notre Dame and Penn St but honestly your shot is about 0.01 percent you would land them.

I would try to go west. Oregon and Washington and try for Oklahoma St and a Texas school.

Get out while you can. Clemson, FSU and Miami go together.

Jul 1, 2022, 1:05 AM

It would make a good package deal for the SEC to consider. Not sure we are a good match in the B1G. More historical rivalries in the SEC anyways. The annual money gap will only get worse moving forward as we would remain locked in the Grant of Rights nonsense for 14 more years if we stayed in the ACC. Time to think about future state and survival of our great program.

Just my $0.02.
Go Tigers!!!
