Does the ACC review or "punish" refs for bad games?

Sep 18, 2015, 11:24 AM

Just wondering how things work?

Certainly we were all yelling and screaming on the face mask call at the end... but that wasn't the only issues...

They even screwed over the 'Ville with that time out at the end of the half. They HAD to have told him they wanted it called after the play... not even USCjr would call a time out after the play clock was already down.

Does the ACC do anything about this?

it was Clemson playing - I think you meant "do they hand out bonuses?"***

You could read Petrino's lips

He told the Ref if was BS that he wanted a TO AFTER the play. That proves what self righteous idiots that crew was.

It's my understanding that every game is "scored" as to how well the refs did their jobs (or didn't do their jobs). But, I don't think anything ever comes from those grades - I've never heard of any of them being reprimanded, and I think their jobs are more secure than working for the federal government.

And, as it appears (based on last night) Ron Cherry is now the head of ACC officiating - those clowns probably got a bonus for the job they did on the field last night.

integral in the review of the acc football officials.

they will be graded, it's a big deal for bowls, post season & money.

Petrino made the 'time out,' gesture with his hands.

What is an official supposed to do, stop the game and see what he means by forming a 'T,' with his hands.

I..... I don't really know how to respond.....

Yet you seem nice and well-intentioned, so I will give my observation. They rarely take action, unless the call was so blatant that it received so much media attention nationally that they would be laughing stocks if they didn't do something. They usually suspend the crew for a week in those rare cases.

The Conference claims to take oversight of their officiating very seriously, but they seldom, if ever, demonstrate this.

Yes they review but there's no real reprimanding or punishment. You do a good job you are rewarded with post season games which = more money. They were bad on both sides of the ball but really bad on Clemson D. Towards the end the CU players were almost afraid of contact, lots of hands in the air. For the blown facemask call on Watson, well they missed the same one on Wilkins earlier thank goodness. He grabbed the Louisville QB facemask but they let them play or didn't see it. The ones that bothered me the most were on Shaq and the lack of PI on the guy that pinned GHops arms down at the endzone and never turned his head to find the ball.

As for the botched timeout that's on Petrino 100%. Even as a lowly rec football coach we have an assistant stand next to the closest ref and tell them to call it after the play or signal it as soon as it happens. We never let the head coach do it. He made a TO gesture even as he was speaking and they immediately blew the whistle. Guy is a scab and he knows better. Couldn't happen to a better guy.
