I hope I am wrong, but Coach Swinney is talking about XT now

Mar 22, 2021, 9:28 AM

almost exactly like he was about Justin Foster all last season. "He's coming, he's improving, etc", and the next thing you know, he is moving on from football. XT flashed so much talent as a true freshman, but, sadly, that same talent has not been on display at any point since then. Injuries, illness, whatever the cause, he just cannot seem to get past it. Just like Foster. Again, I hope I am wrong, a rejuvenated XT coming off the edge, with Murphy on the other side, would really spice up the defense.

You're talking two different human beings with completely different issues. Surely it could go either way, but I can't see why you'd saddle one player with another's issues.
Dabo ain't perfect, but if you think you've got a better grip on the players and their situations I think you may be selling Dabo WAY short.

Just my opinion.

It's interesting because they were both strongside ends.

It's a big difference lining up over a right tackle as opposed to a left. Yeah, the QB can see you coming but right tackles generally have much worse feet and you can get into them a lot easier. Dunno if I really see either guy as a money, weakside speed rusher who's going to beat even a left tackle around the edge.

Be curious to see which guy winds up weakside if they both wind up starters. KJ Henry is more your traditional weakside guy but he really did not make much of an impact last year. Keep hearing good things about Greg Williams; he was supposedly a long-term project converting from LB but he had that scaly first step and the length you look for and he's supposedly getting there as far as the weightroom and his ability to use his hands. Whatever, those two look like what you send out to for central casting for as far as weakside ends. Don't really see it with either XT or Murphy...who again, really both look like strongside guys.

We really need KJ to live up to his recruiting buildup as Vic Beasley times 2. I'm praying for him because he's got one of the attitudes and work ethics on the team.

Possibly late bloomer or peaked?

Orhorhoro over Capehart? I'm really expecting Capehart to show out this season.

Capehart still needs to develop. Ruke is ready to contribute now, in my opinion. Massive upside, really athletic, and just started playing in high school.

I'm confused about Capehart. No mention today. When he committed, I remember the rage being he was day 1 immediate impact player... Was that just wishful thinking.

From immediate impact to not on 2 deep after year of development... Confused. Tia.

Some guys are physically ready to contribute immediately, as I'm sure Capehart probably was. But not all high school athletes are blessed with good coaching. Spring practice was cut short last year, no summer development, and a minimized fall camp. Then the depth in front of him last year prevented him from seeing the field. Now, he has Darnell (4th year), Ruke (3rd year), Etinosa (3rd year), Tre Williams (top 100 recruit) and Payton Page (top 100 recruit) to compete against for a spot in the two deep. The potential is there, which played into his recruiting ranking. He just has to put the work in.

Don’t we tend to run a 3-4 defense? Just asking.
