What happened in the Walker White recruitment?

We offered Walker White back on December 8 … then we hired Garrett Riley on January 13.
White was on campus this past weekend and when he left, he committed to Auburn.
Was our courtship of Walker White more of a remnant of the old regime?
Is there another QB recruit Riley likes better?
I’m disappointed we didn’t get White, but what do I know?
Just thinking out loud …

Doubt it. Clemson and Baylor experts CB'd him to Clemson this past week. TCI (I know plenty have their opinions on them over here.. ) had their article prepped and posted for a Clemson commitment. Sounds like he may have lead Clemson on or Auburn flipped him last second.

If I was a highly rated QB in the 2024 class... I don't know if I'd come in behind CK and CV thinking I could see the field. Good problem to have, but who knows.

There is chatter on an Auburn site NIL was a factor. Who knows but the parties involved. Obviously Freeze spent the weekend at a blank house and after being refreshed contacted White as soon as he left Clemson and sold him or paid him to go to Auburn. My deal is don't talk about culture when the head coach you chose is guilty of doing what he did. Yes people change and make mistakes, what he did wasn't a mistake it is who he is. You don't slip and accidentally have thousands of dollars conveniently land on recruits laps and you dang sure don't slip and fall on a gaggle of purchased women while hiding behind Christianity.

If you listen to some of the chatter coming out of Arkansas, people were surprised that his stock was blowing up because they didn't see it on the field. In 3 years of high school, he threw for 4000 yards in 27 games, or 148 yards per game. In his Soph and Jr years, he threw for 48 TDs and 20 INTs.
These aren't great numbers for a high school QB and lead you to believe he probably would have had a hard time ever being more than a backup for us. Either way, he made his choice but I think we can find a better fit down the road.

Don't get wrong, I'm sure he's a very good prospect and we were clearly after him, but I was surprised at the seemingly modest production. Junior year - 1800 yards, 25 TDs and 9 INTs doesn't seem elite. Maybe he missed some games, but I don't see any such references.

100% confident Hugh Freeze told him the guy who was responsible for the last two 1st round QB draft picks is no longer here. Also confident money was a factor.

.... between Auburn and Clemson (which they aren't) Which program has recruited better at QB?
I.E. who does he have to beat out to be a starter, and where is he more likely to see the field sooner? Which program would that be easier at?
