I haven't posted on Meyer so here goes.....

Aug 3, 2018, 7:23 PM

Everything I am reading I'm not sure Ohio State can show cause for firing Urban which means they would have to pay whatever he is owed per his contract but at this time I don't see how Ohio State, whether Urban knew, didn't Know, reported it, didn't report it, how they don't wipe their hands of the whole situation. I know Urban is a heck of a coach that has won them a National Title and has them in contention pretty much each year but this is either a PR nightmare, a recruiting nightmare or both. I know Ohio State fans, alum and boosters don't want him fired but if you're the school I don't see what choice you have. I didn't agree with the demonizing of Urban and not Zack Smith and yes I know he is the head coach bt it seems Zack Smith is just flying under the radar and Urban is catching everything and that isn't right to me. Like I said though at this time you have to fire everyone involved and get this behind you and hope you can find a guy to keep the football success flowing. Every coach is going to use this against Urban and Ohio State to every moma out there and they should so you're really in a no win situation. Do it and get it done with so that the football team can get on with the season.

If they can't show proof, real proof that Urban actually knew one of his assistants was abusing his wife, to #### with what the media or anyone else says. You are not guilty until proven innocent in this country even though some believe that you are, you are innocent until you have been proven guilty in this country, and without proof it didn't happen... The wife beater has been fired, and now it's time to move on without the attempt to crucify Meyer over anothers actions and guilt!!!!

Urban statement today reveals he lied last week at B1G media day

Aug 3, 2018, 8:02 PM

I’m with you on the innocent til proven guilty but he was NEVER innocent. He knew who this guy was but he covered it up which is worse. He may know football and be a pretty good coach, but not so sure he has much else in way of personality and humanity.

He told the ad. The ad actually pulled him off he recruiting trail because of it. He has no other responsibilities than to tell his boss the AD.

I think y'all are missing an important detail, he Lied to the media saying he didn't know anything about it. That's the big problem. You can't stand up in front of God and country and lie while representing the school.

Re: Urban statement today reveals he lied last week at B1G media day

Aug 3, 2018, 9:18 PM

Why should Meyer be expected tell the media what would be considered hearsay in a court of law. He may have had good reason to believe the assistant was a slimy dude and that's why he got rid of him, but the police already had official complaints from the wife and it's up to them to make arrests if they believe a crime may have been committed, and if there's enough evidence, up to the DA to take the case to court.

Aug 3, 2018, 9:27 PM [ in reply to Re: Urban statement today reveals he lied last week at B1G media day ]

We are a long way away from that situation in Ohno, so we can't call the guy a liar only on what the media is saying bc we really don't know as a matter of fact how Meyer did or didn't know. Convicting him in the court of public opinion with 15 different stories coming from the mouth of the media just isn't fair to him. Is everything that the media says or has been telling about us for the last 20 years the truth beyond any doubt. No, and the answer is no bc good news don't sell, bad news being made worse by the media does!!!

That’s a big jump to equate the media with God and country. Most of them hate God, and are a big contributor to making messes in our country. No one is under oath when they answer a reporters question.

There is NO story here. ESPN has mud on their face.

Aug 3, 2018, 8:12 PM

I am not a fan of OSU or Urban Meyers. In fact, I usually pull against both. But I think ESPN has totally created a story out of nothing. ESPN will have mud on their fact after all of the facts are revealed.
What I believe we will learn is that Urban Meyers misspoke to the Big Ten media. (one might say he lied or didn’t tell the truth or didn’t tell the full story --- but he was not under oath). I believe he was simply wanting to change the conversation when asked about Coach Smith, saying something like I know nothing about that. I believe that he simply did not want to talk about it. The truth will come out that in 2015 Urban Meyers reported the Coach Smith situation to appropriate authorities.

There is no story here. Must have been a slow news day for ESPN. And being a non-SEC school, ESPN thought they saw blood in the water. I am so tired of the news media, including ESPN, trying to interpret events and create news. They simply need to report the facts.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ESPN has very little to do with this story.

Aug 3, 2018, 9:25 PM

It was broken by a reporter that ESPN laid off a year and a half ago.

And ESPN has run with it -- BIGLY!***

U. Meyer may lose his Buckeye job but he will be coaching

Aug 3, 2018, 8:14 PM

at a major college by Jan 2019 ... probably without Z. Smith. With a big buyout from Ohio St to boot.

Re: I haven't posted on Meyer so here goes.....

Aug 3, 2018, 9:08 PM

What is being missed, is Meyer could have done more than just " I told my boss." If Meyer was half a man HE would have fired him, not passed the buck to his boss. At the very least, Meyer should have told him to get his life in order or find a new job. Or does Meyer not have the authority to fire someone on his staff. He has fired coaches in the past, it happens everywhere.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How do you know what Meyers did or did not do?

Aug 3, 2018, 9:26 PM

How do you know that Meyers didn't tell him to get his life in order or find a new job?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Even if he did, is that acceptable? How many chances should

Aug 3, 2018, 9:32 PM

this guy get? That would've been at least the 2nd incident Meyer was aware of, possibly more, so when is it too much? This guy facing no consequences for his actions just enabled him to keep going it.

Re: Even if he did, is that acceptable? How many chances should

Aug 3, 2018, 9:43 PM

Well, the police’s opinion of the alleged situation(s) probably had a lot to do with it.

Aug 3, 2018, 9:34 PM [ in reply to Re: I haven't posted on Meyer so here goes..... ]

You know people keep saying he liked and I agree with above poster that said Urban was likely just trying to move on in the interview.

What's been lost in today's society is that they think employers have to manage employees personal life also!! I try to avoid being involved with people's lives after we walk out of the office. But today's FaceBook'ers craze to tell ever step in their day makes it seem like everyone's life is an open book. I think it is ridiculous that people fill the need to post every meal, every time to dog poo's, every interaction with someone, which these FB'rs think it's normal to drag the most out of someone's skeleton in the closet. I know I'm in a minority nowadays but I think people need to pay more attention to their own lives and quit worrying what everyone else is doing!

Why can't HC make the decision to fire their own coaches?

Aug 3, 2018, 9:57 PM

I don't understand why all of these coaches can say "Well I told the AD." They are paid the big bucks to manage their staff..that includes hiring and firing, right? Maybe it is different for state run institutions but it seems like someone of Urbans stature can make a decision on a WR coach on his own.
