I have to say, as a group, those four playoff games this

Jan 24, 2022, 7:47 AM

weekend were the best I have ever seen. And I have been following pro football all the way back to the late AFL days a couple years before the merger.

All four games ending in "walkoffs", three field goals and one OT touchdown. If you like close competition, it doesn't get any better than that.

And, the Chiefs and Bills gave us the Cherry on Top with a good old fashioned Big 12 type "Defense Optional" (or non-existent, at the end) game. What those two QBs (Allen and Mahommes) did, with the NFL rules, (No clock stoppage for first downs) in those last two minutes was nothing short of magnificent.

I had no "skin" in the game, maybe a slight lean toward the Bills, since they are the forever bridesmaid. I thought they had it won on not one, but TWO occasions. But, the Chiefs used their own version of Hunter Renfrow (Tight end Travis Kelce) who can be open whenever he wants, seemingly, and showed just what is possible with 13 seconds, timeouts, and needing a field goal to tie and force OT.

The old saw about "It's a shame somebody had to lose this game" never rang truer than last night.
Wow.

So non-competitive wildcard games but fantastic divisional

round. Solid argument for expansion of CFP?

posted this. I really would prefer the CFP remain at 4. But, the SEC wants expansion, and so, eventually, expansion is what we will have. They are the 800 pound gorilla in the room, and they are gaining more weight all the time.

Apples and oranges

Now as long as Clemson continues to make playoffs I’m more than happy to continue the current format forever, but there is a recruiting aspect to CFB that isn’t there in the NFL. If 4 or 5 teams always make the playoffs they can sell that to the recruits that the only chance they have to win a natty is at their school. A school like the real USC loses all of these California recruits to Bama, Clemson, and OSU because they want to play for the big prizes and they don’t really have that chance in the PAC12. Right now there aren’t 8 or 12 teams that have a reasonable chance at a natty, but theses are 15 year decisions. If you allow more teams a chance there could be recruiting impacts and the talent could become less concentrated at the elite top schools. Really what recruit would rather live in cold #### Columbus OH over LA; especially if all your expenses are paid. I think expansion will lead to the resurgence of the real USC.

For example

If we had had an 8 team playoff this year the first round matchups would have been:

Bama vs Ole Miss - Bama won by 21 in the regular season
Michigan vs Baylor - who knows who’d win that one they’re basically the same team. Baylor is warm weather Michigan
Jawja vs O310 State - coming off of a loss to the only good passing offense they played all year the butt sniffers would have to match up against the best passing offense in the country. I’m not sure Jawja makes it to the 2nd round
ND vs Cindy - Pickem

I would sign up to watch those games.
