Worst officiating since the Pitt game

Oct 2, 2022, 11:36 PM

Last night was the worst display of officiating I’ve seen since the let that crooked gamecock and his raga muffin crew call the Pitt game.

Where do these pencil pushers at the ACC find these bums?

We should have won 30-6 in a decently officiated game by my count

I have to agree...

and the league office is complicit and enabling because they continue to ignore it and do absolutely nothing about it.

Making one-sided questionable calls and then ignoring blatant and very obvious penalties is infuriating and I, for one, am sick of it.

at least they missed Shipley's fumble through the endzone

Oct 3, 2022, 8:40 AM

that would've been a game breaker had they got that one correct.

His knee was down, so they did manage to get that one right***

Have you rewatched it?

Oct 3, 2022, 10:03 AM

It looked like the ball may have started moving before his knee went down. I'm not sure if there was conclusive evidence there to change the call on the field, but if I had known they were reviewing that play for a possible fumble I would've been sweating bullets.

I thought the ball had started to move before the knee went down. I remember being very concerned they would change the call to a fumble.

When it gets this incompetent, you have to COMPLETELY…

Oct 3, 2022, 8:09 AM

…CLEAN HOUSE from top to bottom.

Fire every ACC football official, because the rot has permeated every single official.

You have to start from Day 1, not re-hiring any previous ACC official. You have no officials on staff, and you are building from the ground up.

That is the only way to clean up this level of incompetence.

It can’t get any worse than it is right now.

minor flaw, seems like. It would be nearly impossible, even if somehow the ACC wanted to take it on, to build a completely new staff of officials, and expect them to be ANY better, or even as good, as what is there now. Just a fact of life. Much like lockdown cornerbacks, there ain't THAT many truly great officials out there. You only realize you had good ones when the game is over, and it seems like they weren't involved.

No. We pay refs from other conferences to come officiate our games

Oct 3, 2022, 9:46 AM

I swear to you, if I was even remotely close to the field Saturday night I would have rushed the field and speared the head idiot and dealt with the consequences (I was sitting in section UP). I’m so sick and tired of ACC refs making the game about them and not about the student athletes. The way they treat their best shot at the CFP is beyond belief. I can’t wait to exit this pathetic conference.

I was on the front row behind Clemson bench. When it got quiet I said some funny things to the ref. Made #### sure he heard me too. Awful display of officiating.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bad for both teams.

Oct 3, 2022, 8:13 AM

The PIs are getting out of control for sure.

Oct 3, 2022, 8:32 AM

I don’t like to comment on officiating because it sounds like a fan looking for excuses but the game Saturday night was especially bad. In fairness it wasn’t slanted to either team but the “reffing” didn’t compare with the playing on the field. I certainly don’t have the answer but the game really is becoming to violent. Anyone agree?

Re: Bad for both teams.

Oct 3, 2022, 8:48 AM

The only part I don't necessarily agree with is that the game is becoming more violent. I think the rules have absolutely gotten out of hand and have affected the game in a negative way. I have often thought that pretty soon they will be playing flag football if the trend continues. They need major revamping of that stupid targeting rule. The year they implemented it was the year Clowney knocked the helmet off the Michigan player in the bowl game and it rolled into the end zone if I'm not mistaken. That was the intent of the rule. To stop the violent head to head collisions that were done on purpose. Now it had gotten where they have to rewatch the play over and over and over to determine if it was targeting. They way I see it, if you have to rewatch it multiple time to make a determination then its not targeting. Helmets grazing in a tackle is not targeting - at least the original intent of the rule. Just gotten way out of hand and is ridiculous.

I thought it was very hard hitting and skirted the edge of turning dirty for a bit Gladly, it avoided that. I was not aware during the game (I was there) that Dabo was EXTREMELY upset with the Refs, but it was crystal clear when I got home and re-watched it.
I wanted to see how things looked on TV, and I wanted to hear the commentary on a few specific plays. I thought it looked pretty good on TV, but from my perspective, it was waaaaaaaayyyy better experiencing it live. I thought the TV commentary was cowardly. The PI in the endzone was dead wrong and the official knew it. After he made that call, he stood dead still in front of the goalpost for 5 minutes and didn’t move. It looked like he’d been in a car wreck and was in shock.

Walking into the game, I was immediately beside 3 Wolfpack fans. they looked to be late 20’s. A drunk Clemson girl, she looked to be early 20’s, took the trouble to turn around and talk trash to them. They kinda just looked wide eyed and said nothing. One of the guys in my group, leaned in real close to her and said, “have you had any water today?” She didn’t get it. I told the Pack fans, “I do remember being here at Clemson and being that drunk, I just never went to a game that drunk”. They laughed.
We sat right between the NCSU fans and the NCSU Band…..zero problems.
For the record, I still can’t stand Doeren.

That is just stupid because you did not watch the game. State had 10 penalties and we had 9 so if it was bad it was both ways.

Think our game was bad, in the FSU / Wake game the ACC refs

Oct 3, 2022, 8:38 AM

..actually forgot the down and had to go to instant replay.

That's right; the game was stopped for 5 minutes while the refs figured out what down it was on instant replay. Even the announcers were shocked.

I think Wake ended up scoring a touchdown anyway so it didn't end up having an impact on the game. However, I remember thinking in the moment how upset I'd be if I were a Wake fan and the FSU defense was given a chance there to catch their breath.

Oct 3, 2022, 8:39 AM

Pack Pride, and they were livid at the officials too. They are 100% convinced that Shipley fumbled before his knee went down at the 1 on that wheel route, and I'm not sure they are wrong. I went back and watched that play and the ball does appear to start moving right around the same time as his knee hits.

Re: Worst officiating since the Pitt game

Oct 3, 2022, 8:43 AM

Being at the game I thought they were terrible. I am going to rewatch it on TV. On the Shipley touchdown/down short call - it looked like he was fumbling the ball prior to his knee down which would have been a touchback NCState ball - if this is true - especially considering they reviewed it, then that makes up for a lot of no hold calls.

In general the refs have been leading to 14 point swings in game meaning you could better then the other team by 10 points and still lose the game depending on how some call or no-calls go.

Re: Worst officiating since the Pitt game

Oct 3, 2022, 9:49 AM

If Shipley actually fumbled, it appears the state player knocks the ball out of the end zone with his hand. Would this still be a touchback ball to state?
