Self-checkout is a godsend, and if checking receipts helps protect this divine blessing, then let's do it.
Self-checkout, or even bagging my own groceries at Harris Teeter because someone somewhere in the management chain decided hiring baggers was not a good idea, is a matter of rational self-interest; it also is kind of fun, but that is beside the point. If going to self-checkout, or telling the cashier who has been thrust into the position of both scan and bag artist, then I'll do it. It gets me out of the store faster. I don't care if it is *their* job, or that *I am paying for the groceries so why should I bag them* -- I'm not willing to spend the time to live in this utopia.
People get all hot and bothered by having to bag their own groceries or whatever, but it must be nice that your time is so invaluable that you're willing to burn so much of your life waiting in line for someone else to do it for you. I mean, wow. You really have it all together. Go you.

for me is the fact that when you scan beer or wine, it let's you continue scanning until you pay before requiring an age verification by a cashier. I used to avoid it whenever I had any alcohol in my cart.

sooner rather than later where it's basically all RFID and you just walk through and everything gets scanned and heck, maybe even tied to a card where you don't have to stop. Amazon stores experimented with this.
This pro-human folks are a bunch of luddites.

Modern baggers chap my ####### ###

First off - I agree with you completely. I prefer to bag my own groceries b/c I'm better at it. Former Winn-Dixie bagger of the month here, sport.
But what really just chaps my ### is how these punk ### kids are taught to do it. When I unload my groceries onto the belt, they are in perfect bagging sequence. Both from a planogram perspective, and also from a volumetric standpoint. Meaning, two grabs based on how I orient the SKUs on the belt will yield a perfect bag. All the stuff that supposed to go together goes together, etc. etc.
Every. ####. Time. these kids just #### it up. I try to coach em up on planograms and maximizing cube within the bag to reduce number of trips for me when I get home...but nooooooooooo.
Anyways...I'm still working on em. I'll take the current set up over the toothless crackheads that bag groceries in ATL any day of the week.

in the grocery store and going to her manager. She would look up and dart her eyes around after scanning every single item. There was no focus. No planning. No urgency. If she was in a war, you'd frag her just to get her out of the way before someone got killed.
Bagging is an art. It's not a hard art, but it's an art nonetheless. You have the prep. You have the future vision and planning for how you're going to tackle the mission. And you have execution.
She might as well have been Bowe Bergdahl going to "take a stroll" around the green zone and getting herself kidnapped. In the words of Michael Jordan, "eff them kids."
STILL though...I'm not posting to the internet about how upset I am like these other nancies who have to touch their own CPGs. Take a chill pill and get a life. This isn't war.
(It's war.)

business and it frustrates me to no end.
I arrange my stuff on the belt in the order I want it bagged and they still F it up.
And don’t get me started on plastic bags
I do like that food Lion puts cold stuff in blue bags so you know what needs to be unpacked first
If I have 10 or fewer I self check but with a full load you can’t get it all bagged and sitting on the bagging area until you pay.

the guys dressed as Cousin Eddie. Even better, they stopped by Wal-Mart on the way to the party, and there happened to be an old POS RV in the parking lot (actually, a number of them, as it kinda looks like that particular Walmart lot is becoming a homeless haven, but that's a different topic). His wife was like "that's probably somebody's home, and you're going to take a joke picture in front of it?" "Yep."
It occurred to me that you could wear that into Walmart, and be almost guaranteed to not be the stranges/worst-dressed person in that store. Most people probably wouldn't even notice.

They check your receipt and randomly scan three of our items. If they're on your receipt, you're good to go. If they find something NOT on the receipt, you're tarred, feathered, and drawn and quartered.
