Dear Clyde Trapp,

Mar 20, 2021, 10:50 AM

There were players who supported Ken Hatfield and Larry Shyatt too

Look, Clyde, people don't "hate" Brad Brownell. We hate being stuck in the mud for 11 years. We have a crafting of potential, and we want the basketball program to be better than what Mr. Brownell is capable of accomplishing.

Most of the team had no issue with Tommy Bowden, and when shat hit the fan they would play hard for him. In 2003 Mr. Bowden was about to be fired. Then, players rallied around and, we won out the rest of the season with a HUGE upset of FSU, we beat Duke, we beat the snot out of South Carolina (63-17), and we beat a highly favored Tennessee team in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

Players can love their coach, but that doesn't mean they can coach. Thanks for supporting the coach, but he has shown his ceiling.

Best of luck, Clyde. And Coach.

*"crafting" should be CRAPTON.

As in, "we have a CRAPTON of potential in our basketball program".

I have no doubt that Coach Brownell wants to win. My doubt

Mar 20, 2021, 11:12 AM

is that he has the internal mental tools to accomplish that goal at Clemson. Be it recruiting, in game coaching, whatever, the consistency in performance of his teams on the court is just not at a championship level.

As much as I hated Dean Smith, I use him as an example. When you went up against North Carolina in those days, you knew you were going to face a hard nosed team, a good shooting team, and good free throw shooting team, a good defensive team, night in and night out. And, you knew he had recruited enough talent to just out talent many teams, as well.

I have said many times, the INconsistency of Clemson under Brownell is the most maddening aspect of it all. Win a big game, inexplicably lose to a lesser team. Tommy Bowdening at its finest. You cannot afford to go "All-In" on rooting for his teams, the ONLY consistent thing is that you WILL be ultimately disappointed and crushed if you do. Last night perfect example. A game we should have won. Instead, Rutgers gets THEIR first tournament win in 38 years. Congratulations to their fanbase, I guess.

Right. There are a lot of things I want to do...

But for some reason I haven’t found anyone to pay me $2 Million to do any of them.

Who knows...maybe it has something to do with being able to show results.

Yeah, it's like Ron White's old bit about being thrown out of a bar into "public". He said they told him he "had the right to remain silent", but at that point, he didn't have the ability to. :)

I would love to break par every time I play golf, but reality makes me struggle just to break 90. Heck, these days, I would love just to be able to play golf, period. None for me the last 2+ months due to back issues, along with wife's much more serious health concerns.

Brownell has had all the time in the world to improve over the "historical" average success of Clemson basketball, and has not gotten it done. Time to give someone else a chance.

Re: Right. I can be a good person, have the players love

me, and develop them as men, and go one-and-done in the post-season just as good as BB. But nobody is going to pay me $2 million annually to do that. Those characteristics are the mandatory bottom line for all coaches. After that, they are supposed to improve the program. BB is not doing that.
And last time, I checked, all basketball coaches are human. The Clemson basketball program is stuck in abject mediocrity, and those of us who want more are criticized for pointing out the absolute truth. Look what Alabama has accomplished with its coaching change. And our feathered-friends in Columbia had the courage and sense to make a football change. Enough is enough with BB.

^^^ this ^^^

I'm just going to shut up and point to what 76 said. That sums it up from many many in my pod, and family members around me that has stood by CBB. Well said.
