on a message board b*tching about losing a DL coach. Those positions are a dime a dozen that’s full off decent developmental minds. Lol this board is an embarrassment.

If this was the biggest loss next to losing Venables then why was Bates not promoted to D-Coordinator?
I have to trust that Dabo knows he is doing and promoted the right guys to ensure long-term success.
Looking back on this I am not surprised Bates left after get passed over for the promotion. It does appear that Dabo tried to give Bates additional responsibilities because Bates has a bright future and wanted to keep him.
There are lots of options on D-line coaches.

Huff is spot on. Bates is a HUGE loss. Ain't nothing to do with coaching DLine. A GA can do that. There's a reason BV wanted him.
All about the Jimmy and Joes. Yeah, none of us know behind the scenes what or why moves were made unless you're on the inside. But looking from the outside on the surface... Not good.

before Roof or Bates. They both get promotions which is good for them, but we kept the guy BV really wanted

moves Dabo has made. Richardson is going to be a stud recruiter. Reed has always been an excellent recruiter. Streeter has landed top QB after top QB and will have more responsibility now as OC. Grisham was the lead recruiter on both of the Collins' and on Williams and Randall this year. Under Caldwell, OL recruiting has greatly improved the last few years with everyone knowing Austin would replace him.
And then there's Dabo

Maybe calling T.Bates a 'dime a dozen' DL coach is a bit harsh.
But among the assistant coaches who left, clearly he is the most easily replaced.
Of COURSE B.Venables was our biggest asst. coaching loss. Anyone who can't recognize that needs to be locked up and be denied access to stoves / ovens, and have any type of pharmaceuticals be administered to them by their 'friends at the facility.'
Despite the rantings of so many on TNet this past season, T.Elliott and R.Caldwell were much more valuable and harder to replace than T.Bates. At least in the case of R.Caldwell, a succession plan had been in place for several months.
We will find a quality DL coach who is also a vigorous recruiter in short order.

their perception of other posters crying.
There is a difference between blaming Bates for leaving versus understanding his value to the program. Does any rational person blame Bates for leaving? Of course not! Do we recognize that losing him hurt the program, yes.
