I have been trying to learn a bit about the Air Raid Offense

and I found this disconcerting tidbit on footballadvantage.com,
Who Should Not Use the Air Raid Offense? Teams That Are Bigger - Teams with big offensive linemen who don’t move well, or with multiple tight ends and a fullback, won’t be the best fit for the Air Raid offense. This type of personnel would be a much better fit for a Pro Style offense.
Teams Who Lack Skilled Wide Receivers - To the same point, teams without a stable of wide receivers they can rotate in and out wouldn’t be a good fit for the Air Raid. In addition to the four wide receivers on the field every play, it’s good to have some extras at the position to substitute in to keep everybody fresh.
Teams That Are Slower - Similarly, teams with either slower offensive linemen or even bigger, slower wide receivers probably won’t do well in an Air Raid. It’s great to have one possession wide receiver who is bigger, but if all the team’s wide receivers are this body type, they may not run the offense to its peak performance

Would be relevant if Riley ran an air raid offense but he doesn’t ?♂️?♂️

What are the primary differences between air raid and Riley’s offense?

Riley actually runs the ball successfully and if it’s working will stick with it. Air raid offenses could careless about running the ball unless they absolutely have to. This guy isn’t an idiot he knows the talent he has at RB if y’all think he’s going to come in and ignore that to sling the ball everywhere idk what to tell you.

Interesting fact

The percent of yards gained as a ratio of Run/Pass were almost identical b/n TCU and Clemson this past year.
Their top rusher ran for over 200 more yards than Shipley as well.

I don’t get why everyone believes this but I guess everyone has to try to find the negative in something

We are built to run the football. Riley will adjust and use our backs and tight ends in the passing game.

Tobias - It will make you feel better if you read the story on the front page of Tnet that talks about Riley's philosophy and style. He has some very telling quotes in the article. All skill players on our team should love hearing what he has to say.

First of all "Air Raid Offense" has all sorts of variations. TCU did not run the Hal Mumme air raid offense that he developed at Valdosta State and ran at Kentucky. It has some principles of Air Raid, but it has other things thrown in as well.
Second, as to big OL, I don't think so. Mike Leach tended to have big OL. To throw the ball 30+ times a game you have to have big guys who can protect the QB. Someone, years ago, described it as "you need a wall of lard" in order to run the air raid. The air raid offense has to be able to move a DL against his will when the D only has 5 guys in the box. TCU had a 1300 yard rusher this year.
Here are the top 6, by weight, OL in 2022. Having a big OL doesn't by itself guarantee you a successful running game, but it is just wrong to think a big OL isn't a big help in the TCU offense.
1. Syracuse 6’5.2″, 337.7 2. LSU 6’5.2″, 325.2 3. South Alabama. 6’3.8″, 324.6 4. UTSA 6’3.4 tall”, 324.4 5. Missouri. 6’5.4″, 324.2 6. TCU 6’5.6″, 323.6

Thank you for the breakdown Bret, Garett Riley will have more weapons at his disposal then ever. He’s a smart coach not going to box himself into an Air Raid scheme. Have a feeling defenses are going to have their hands full next year.

Here is an example of what I'm trying to explain. Go to the 1 hr and 36 minute mark of this video. What the opening dirve of the second half by Baylor vs. Oklahoma. Admittedly, OU played horrible defense. They consistently gave Baylor WRs a cushion. They started the drive by putting 6 guys on the line and trying to pressure the QB. They couldn't. So, they rushed 3 and dropped 8. But, they still didn't put pressure on QB. QB went 9-9 on this drive, all short passes. Classic case of "take what the defense gives you." (Listen to the announcers. They talk about it.) Then on first and goal from the five, OU plays a 3-3 defense. Baylor OL puts a hat on a hat and move 5 guys out of the way. The RB has initial contact at the 3 yeard line and just bowls over the linebacker and scores. (This was back in the Bob Stoops era, BTW, when OU had a stout defense.
But, my point is, the Baylor OL was not a bunch of small, quick guys who could finesse block. They could protect the passer and they could move a DL out of the way when they needed too. They also ahd a powerful back who wasn't afraid to run over a linebacker. (Mafah and Shipley both fit that bill.)
Riley talked about running fewer plays and out executing the other team. It you want to watch this entire game, you will see that is exactly what Baylor did to Oklahoma. According to all "traditional metrics" OU had better talent. But, Art Briles and the offense made them look close to inept.

I recall Mike Leach had some big linemen at Texas Tech. They whooped us in the Tangerine Bowl.
