Here's my question.. How come ESPN keeps pushing this "Can ND get past an undefeated Clemson to keep their playoff hopes alive"... Why isn't it "Can Clemson get past an undefeated Notre Dame to keep THEIR playoff hopes alive"??

This is a sports board and we're all here hoping that some poster has correctly read the tea leaves and will tell us all how great we are, how we are going to roll over all the competition. If you recall, we had some folks on here absolutely certain we would hang 50+ on Louisville.
ND is ranked higher than us, is always expected to do well and is coming to Clemson which didnt hang 50+ on Louisville.
Im thinking we have what it takes to win, but I'm thinking too we will have our hands full - again.
I'd like more respect from the press for Clemson, but we havent earned it against the biggest of the big just yet.

Well keep in mind this.
UVA is ranked 96th Total Defense
UMASS is ranked 118th Total Defense
Texas is ranked 109th Total Defense
UVA is ranked 103rd Total Offense
Texas is ranked 105th Total Offense
UMASS is decent on offense but is one of the worst rushing teams in the nation and still did decent enough to get about 150yds on the ground.
GT was the best all around team they played. On offense they are one of the top 10 teams in rushing but obviously one of the bottom 10 teams in passing. On defense...they were a top 30 defense.
Remember during the GT game it was a 13-7 game at the half with GT missing 2 FG's and 16-7 going into the 4th quarter. GT actually did a decent job with RB Prosise until he got that 91yd run for their last TD.
I say all that to say this. I think our defense is better than GT's and on offense we are more than capable to play a balanced game which would throw them off. The reason I say that is because we are averaging about 190yds a game...ND has allowed big runs fairly often this year. They have also allowed nice midsize chunks passes of 16 to 25yds at times also. I also saw in a few of their games where their D-line didn't get any pressure to the QB but bad passes saved them from being picked apart. I'm not saying we will expect the same showing from them but they shouldn't be expecting it from us either.

"ND is always expected to do well"...lasttime I remembered, they were also known for "Notre Daming"...as in every year being anointed at the top to flop. Last time it was "their time", Winston made them look like mince meat.

Absolutely correct. They have underachieved every year for what-10 years or so. Yes-they played for the title 4 years ago, but got blown out.

But who needs it? We've had some great seasons and I'm happy. If we want to win it all we know that likely means undefeated. Great but I hope it's not our only goal. Getting past FSU is my first priority. Paves the way for another ACC. Also really want to reclaim ownership of the dead cockroach. If we end up undefeated or 1-loss, I'll get on board the playoff beauty contest. But not until.

If/when we beat ND ESPN will just make excuses. I told my dad that we would still move up in the polls, but if we win that people outside of Clemson will talk about all the injuries they have, and if we lose they will say that even with their injuries we still couldn't beat them. I think recruits see through most of that, love Dabo, and love Clemson when they come for a visit.
Speaking of, are there any recruits coming to this game?

They said the same thing when we beat ugay in Clemson, when we beat OSU in the bowl game, when we beat LSU in the bowl game, when we beat Auburn 2 of 3 years (and really got shafted in the game at their place), etc, etc., etc. Don't expect anything much different since we aren't in their (the ESecPN) conference.

In regards to this season, ND has a slightly better resume as far as strength of schedule is concerned. That's why these media hacks have no other choice but to side with ND. But after this weekend, that all changes. I feel confident that this will be a battle that Clemson will win. ND has a faster defense than we have seen from them in the past but they are still not CLEMSON. There offense has yet to be tested and they will definitely be tested this weekend. ESecPN will be singing a different tune next week (I hope). Saturday the country will see what we already know... Clemson is for real!

We are not in the SEC. They sell a product and they clearly feel that the best market is sec, domers, buckeyes, etc. If they can find any justification to pump a bigger market team they will do it. As always our boys will take it as an insult and show the nation that we mean business.

Based only on the GT game. The rest of their games are just as soft as ours were. Texas is a joke, UVA and Louisville cancel each other and UMass and App St. are a wash. What is so impressive about ND's record?
