thinking we need to be back in the office because there is no way that time cards are accurate. Here's hoping that accounting says rent is worse than time theft and we don't have to worry with it.

WFH if you want and Office if you want. However, the office is switching to Agile Workspaces where we have to reserve an office if you want to come in. We have space for about 70 people with 50 parking spaces and probably have 100+ stationed out of the Charlotte office now since we acquired a couple other companies just before and during the pandemic. We needed new office space but they saw how WFH is a benefit to some people and decided to sign a new lease on the existing space instead of expanding our space.
I see this as a win for me, I may only go to Charlotte 2-3 days a week, with ALOT of flexibility. Unfortunately, I will have to wear a belt again one day and tuck my shirt in though.

office for a day, up to two weeks at a time.
The New York and San Fran offices are just long tables with monitor setups that you plug into. We are not doing that as far as I know, keeping the offices and cubicles, but you don't have any personal stuff because we no longer have our own space.
Biggest problem is going to be parking....again. We have 50 spaces and way more people than that. I waited 2 years to get a parking pass and now I think I am going to have to give it back up.

It was pretty badass. It was electric, and had 3 presets. I bet they paid $4000 for that thing.

but they had me in a cubicle that would let everyone behind me watch every single thing I do if I was standing. I hate that idea, so I never put it together and the office manager got mad at me. I cannot stand people being able to watch over my shoulder.

thing for years in public accounting, most employees were working at client offices anyway.
You have to reserve a spot - there are limits on how long you can reserve and how far in advance, etc. Offices were treated like any other employee tool - use it when you need it, but it is not "yours."

maybe 2 years ago?
The company who just sold us started requiring EVERYONE to come into one of their "technology hubs". They were 5 huge offices around the US. My old boss got let go because he wouldn't move to be close to one of the hubs. They planned on the "hotelling" thing as well.
Then a year later they sent everyone home for Covid, and have no plans to bring anyone back in to the "hubs".

not that I needed/used it, but I was one of the few that had a 'dedicated' spot, while all the other minions needed to reserve a 'hotel' spot...
I got an early heads up about the long-term WFH 1.5 weeks ago (they still haven't officially announced it) and was there the next day to pack my shizz up and GTFO.

I've only put 3,000 miles on my truck since JAN, normally would have been 7,500.
WFH is indefinite even though we just had a ribbon cutting ceremony on new office.

Then the boss realized he couldn't micro-manage everyone that way, so he deemed us essential and we went back to the office. Didn't even have a "mask mandate" at the office until like 3 months ago.
